Rumour has it that your salary is finished, or, wait a minute, is it true? If your answer is yes, my friend, you're not alone. We are so many on this table that, any minute now, I am certain the table would surrender to our weight.

You have to believe me; I made great financial plans just before payday and now, just a few days later, I find myself trying to convince myself that I was actually paid last month because, in the apt words of Mr Incredible (MI), "money slow to enter, where money dey go? I don't know".

This salary that the corporate world — that is, my side of it — pegs as my worth translated to money, I have found is hesitant to be in an actual relationship with me. I mean, it kinda makes sense: the thought of working so hard to keep a partner but they don't miss the opportunity to leave at the slightest opportunity.

Baby, we can make this work; all I want is that you learn to stay a little longer than five working days. At the very least, try and make to the middle of the month.

Forget the absolute claptrap I told HR that I chose the job — that daily source of pain and endless troubles — that I had passion for the job. Babe, let me be totally honest: I chose to work there only because of you. I mean, think about it, what else would drag me out of a beautiful sleep to face the waiting monster of Lagos traffic if not the power of love, my undiminished love for you?

If you stayed a bit longer, you'd find me a sweet companion in a word where nothing is worth trusting. I know, I know there are many who don't want to see us together: bills, family members, the teeming number of folks with urgent needs, my own cravings, data, airtime, to name a few. Please, think about this deeply before the next payday.
