Something happened today and honestly… I laughed, but then I started thinking. 😂

I decided to go out to buy a screen guard for my phone.

Before my butter fingers work their magic.

Typical me, I was doing the usual Nigerian market mathematics

“₦2,000.” he said

Not expensive tho

But my mother taught me well

I can't shame her.

“Abeg, ₦1,000.”

“Madam, no.”

“Ahhh, that's what I have oo.”

I had 2k with me, but he doesn't have to know sha

“Oya bring ₦1,500”

“Boss, na 1k I get .”

Normal business. 😂

Then this man looked at me and said, “Call your boyfriend and collect money.”

😭😭😭

Sir???

I’m negotiating the price of a SCREEN GUARD. Why have we suddenly summoned a man into the transaction?

Why does everything have to be about a man?

A woman is buying something—“Your husband will pay.”

A woman is struggling financially—“Ask your boyfriend.”

A woman wants something expensive—“Your man should get it for you.”

At this point, do you people think every woman is walking around with a secret man-shaped ATM in her handbag? 😭

Like...is there one that I don't know about?

And it actually got me thinking…

Is it that people genuinely believe women can’t provide for themselves?

Because a woman can have a boyfriend and still have her own money.

She can be single and still be financially comfortable.

She can be married and still be the one paying for her own things.

And sometimes—brace yourselves—a woman is just negotiating because she doesn't want to overpay. 😂

Or sometimes she's just testing her negotiating prowess

It doesn't mean she needs a man.

It doesn't mean she can't afford it.

It doesn't mean somebody somewhere needs to transfer money.

Maybe she just wants the ₦2,000 screen guard for ₦1,000. LET HER COOK. 😭😂

Can we normalize seeing women as individuals who can earn, provide, make decisions, and take care of themselves—whether or not there’s a man beside them?

And if she’s negotiating over a screen guard, please let her negotiate in peace. Her boyfriend is not the customer service department

But seriously, I think it's interesting how quickly society connects a woman's financial needs to a man.

Sometimes, she isn't looking for a provider.

She's just looking for a better price. 😂

The good news is that I sha bought it for 1k

My mum will be proud of her daughter

This man wanted to cash out with my extra 1k but my God pass am 😂

On getting home, tell me why the phone is touching by itself small small

Abi is it a new feature they attached to the screen guard

It had better be

Technology is advancing sha 🥲

Ladies, please tell me I'm not the only one who has experienced this kind of thing. 👀

Not the auto touch screen guard...

I mean the relating everything to a man

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

We pick the top 3.

Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
