I SURVIVED!.

I SUVIVEEED!

I AM A SURVIVOR AND A SuPErHeRo.

Menstrual cramps have been with me for so long that I’ve learnt how to endure them.

I mean, we grew up together.

It came visiting unannounced, aggressively taking over how I felt.

Taking control of my body.

The first time I had menstrual cramps, I thought I was going to need surgery.

It was the morning of an English class. I felt strange while getting dressed for school, but I ignored it. I just drank water, guessing I was dehydrated.

Oh, I should have just stayed at home.

A few minutes into the class, I couldn’t take it anymore.

It felt like my lower abdomen was tearing.

I had heard about appendicitis. I thought I had it because surely, this couldn’t be normal.

I started praying to at least make it home.

Throughout the day, I couldn’t do anything. My friends stayed by my side.

Good old days.

I refused to accept that it was menstrual pain because what was this feeling?

You can’t feel it, so why did you think it was just ovulation or menstrual pain?

I was too weak to even argue.

I just kept saying, “No. It’s not.”

I went home and spoke to an auntie, a nurse, about this new pain.

She asked me a few questions and, without telling me what was happening, handed me some medicine.

I hated medicine, but what choice did I have?

I took it, and the pain disappeared.

This became my routine until she decided that I was getting used to the medicine and hid the tablets. I didn’t even know their name, so you can imagine.

I knew how to endure the pain so well.

No.

My pains, they are mine. I have accepted that.

But yesterday’s was not the usual.

It came with intentions.

The type that makes you want to know what’s really happening down there.

The type that made me laugh out loud and cry. I danced. I cleaned the house in hot tears.

I just wanted to distract my brain.

I kid you not, I took three different doses of painkillers within seven hours, and I’m not proud of it.

I lost my appetite.

I can’t even explain it properly.

And in this moment I realised that no woman deserves a nonchalant partner .

No woman deserved to be asked "What do you bring to the table"?

I will actually carry that table and scatter your brain since you cannot think with it.

But honestly, is menstrual and ovulation pain part of the curse God laid on Eve?

Is it? 😭
