It Was Never About The Rain
<p>Lights off, city underground.</p><p>Tell me, did the floods do this much?</p><p><br/></p><p>It was no tornado, but you came like one.</p><p>You tore through everywhere and owned it,</p><p>like you put everything there and wanted it all to end.</p><p><br/></p><p>You were like God when He created everything and called it good,</p><p>but when it was evil, you wiped it all out.</p><p>Is this how we end?</p><p><br/></p><p>You know it's not about us, it's about the rain,</p><p>but believe me when I tell you —</p><p>floods don't do this much.</p><p><br/></p><p>They don't take away power,</p><p>they don't take away light,</p><p>they don't dim souls like you've done to me</p><p>and everything concerning me.</p><p>You are the storm.</p><p><br/></p><p>Listen, I lied.</p><p>It was never about the rain.</p><p>It was my soul. It was me you took. It was us you ruined.</p><p>I thought we were right. I thought we were true.</p><p>But now I understand the message you've passed across —</p><p><br/></p><p>The meaningless I am to you,</p><p>the vapour, the disaster you want,</p><p>the dread, the tears, the pain, the losses.</p><p><br/></p><p>You called me evil, so just tear through me.</p><p>I am the world you made that never turned out right.</p><p>I am the human you created that can't be washed,</p><p>but should be buried in flood.</p><p><br/></p><p>Like a tornado, do what you will.</p><p>It was never about the rain.</p><p><br/></p><p>Give me the rainbow!</p><p>Promise me we can be something again.</p>
