Love's Last Reward
Listen to this Insight

Pain lingers where no visible wounds have been struck, yet it weighs so heavily that even simple words dissolve into unbidden tears. What a dreadful existence it becomes, as the bond between souls shatters, leaving a part of one to perish alongside the other. The heart aches with an intensity that defies description, and the trauma of such a loss is almost unbearable.

Love is spoken of so casually, never revealing that a piece of the heart and soul was exchanged in that covenant called friendship, unknowingly committed to with forever as its trademark. The heart no longer belongs to one alone but becomes a refuge for those loved and cherished. A silent vow is made: “Let this burden be shared, for death is preferable to seeing the other fall.” This is the depth to which love can reach.

As all living things follow their cycle and time, when death knocks on the door of one whose heart has become a home, life turns hollow. Words grow heavy, sorrow becomes a constant companion, and sleep no longer brings peace. A single question echoes: “Why?” The unspoken cry emerges: “This wasn’t the plan.”

If it were possible to decipher this path, perhaps the pain of memories would fade, those memories of how freely human existence once flowed, how a simple smile could shift darkness into light. But a void is left behind, and the heart bears a gaping wound, a sorrow that can’t be comprehended. It feels as if a part has died, and there’s no adjusting to this emptiness.

Grief, an unlearned consequence of loving so deeply, why must it turn strength into frailty? Why so much pain? Can endurance withstand another blow? What a fragile thing, this existence, with all its pain and sorrow intertwined.

Is this truly the reward of loving deeply?
