Mandatory Meal
<p>In the great hall</p><p><br/></p><p>of mortality,</p><p><br/></p><p>a mandatory meal</p><p><br/></p><p>await us all</p><p><br/></p><p>with grace.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>A final feast,</p><p><br/></p><p>a last supper to share</p><p><br/></p><p>with Death as the host,</p><p><br/></p><p>who comes for everyone,</p><p><br/></p><p>without care.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>The table is spread.</p><p><br/></p><p>The guests arrive in time,</p><p><br/></p><p>from every walk of life,</p><p><br/></p><p>from every station and clime.</p><p><br/></p><p>Kings and queens,</p><p><br/></p><p>paupers and poets too,</p><p><br/></p><p>all gather here</p><p><br/></p><p>to taste the bitter truth.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>The menu is fixed,</p><p><br/></p><p>the dishes all the same:</p><p><br/></p><p>farewell, goodbye,</p><p><br/></p><p>the end of mortal claim.</p><p><br/></p><p>No choice,</p><p><br/></p><p>no taste,</p><p><br/></p><p>no flavour to explore,</p><p><br/></p><p>just the cold fact</p><p><br/></p><p>of our mortal score.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>In this great hall,</p><p><br/></p><p>we all must take a seat</p><p><br/></p><p>and face the music,</p><p><br/></p><p>our final defeat.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Yet even in death,</p><p><br/></p><p>there is beauty to behold:</p><p><br/></p><p>a mandatory meal</p><p><br/></p><p>where every soul</p><p><br/></p><p>is equal and whole.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>No crown can buy</p><p><br/></p><p>an empty chair;</p><p><br/></p><p>no wealth can make</p><p><br/></p><p>Death disappear.</p><p><br/></p><p>No name, no rank,</p><p><br/></p><p>no earthly fame</p><p><br/></p><p>can change the guest list</p><p><br/></p><p>or escape the frame.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>So while the table</p><p><br/></p><p>has not yet called our name,</p><p><br/></p><p>let us live with purpose,</p><p><br/></p><p>not merely chase acclaim.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>For one day,</p><p><br/></p><p>the feast will come,</p><p><br/></p><p>the hall will fill,</p><p><br/></p><p>the music will cease,</p><p><br/></p><p>and we will leave</p><p><br/></p><p>with nothing but</p><p><br/></p><p>the deeds we carried</p><p><br/></p><p>to the table of eternity.</p>
