My heart----A DOORWAY

‎I am a door that swings too wide,

‎too eager for the knock.

‎A hand that reaches out too fast,

‎before the lock unlocks.

‎

‎You come in with your voice like light,

‎your laughter fills the hall,

‎and I think this, this is the one,

‎the friend who stays through all.

‎

‎I give you pieces of my soul,

‎the messy, quiet parts,

‎I weave your name into my day,

‎I carve you in my heart.

‎

‎But then you see the ones before me,

‎and suddenly you're gone.

‎You leave me standing in the room

‎where we were just holding on.

‎

‎I watch you walk toward your friends,

‎the ones who knew you first.

‎And I'm the echo in your step,

‎the shadow at your worst.

‎

‎I feel so stupid standing here,

‎like I imagined more.

‎Like I was just a passing stop,

‎a bench beside your door.

‎

‎But still I wait, and still I hope,

‎when the next one comes along,

‎because this ache, this foolish heart,

‎just wants to belong.

‎

‎So I will keep the door a little wide,

‎though I flinch at every sound.

‎Maybe one day, someone will stay,

‎and not just look around.

‎
