The 800 Naira Gamble That Made Me a Skincare Person

I need to be honest about something: I was never a "skincare person." I'd see people talking about their routines and their little bottles and think, that's a whole lifestyle I don't have the patience for. And then Temu happened.

It was one of those late-night scrolls where your thumb just keeps going and your cart keeps filling. Somewhere between the phone cases and the kitchen gadgets, I came across the Sadoer 5-piece collagen travel skincare set. White and gold packaging, five little products, the whole thing looking far more expensive than it had any right to. And here's the part that still makes me laugh: the first time I bought it, it cost me about 800 naira. Not a typo. I had coupons stacked on coupons, and it slipped into my order alongside everything else. Roughly 8–15k is the normal price, which is still fair — but 800 naira? That felt like getting away with something.

Now, I was skeptical. Deeply skeptical. This was my first skincare set, and I had no idea if it would agree with my skin or declare war on it. But then I read that it's for all skin types, and that settled me. For that price, honestly, the risk felt small.

When the package arrived, I genuinely didn't know what it was at first. I opened the box and just stared at this white-and-gold set — it was so nice, so much prettier than I expected. When it clicked that this was my skincare, I was beyond happy.

And then the real surprise: the texture. That's what got me. How it feels on my hands, how it feels on my face — I'm obsessed.

Now. Let me make a confession. I have been using this set faithfully, and I still could not tell you which product is my favourite. Was it the lotion? The face cream? The one in the middle-sized bottle? I don't know. Five products, and I have never once identified the star. Every morning I line them up like a police lineup — "Okayyyy, let's do this one more time, one of you is responsible for the glow. Nobody leaves until I find out who." They never talk. I just slap them on in some order and hope for the best. My entire routine is basically a science experiment with no control group.

Here's how bad it is: if someone held up the five bottles and asked me to point to the one that changed my life, I would sweat. I'd point at one, then panic, then point at another. "It's the… white one?" Ma'am, they're all the white one. That's the problem.

And yet. The compliments started. People told me my skin was shining, and I'd be like, "Yes! It's the new Sadoer set I'm using!" — said with the full confidence of a woman who cannot name a single ingredient, bottle, or step in her own routine. I have recommended this set to everyone. Everyone. I am out here giving testimonials like, "Use the… one. The white one. You'll know it when you see it. One of them is doing the Lord's work — I just haven't caught which one in the act."

The irony? Once I fell in love, I went looking for more Sadoer products — and I didn't have those coupons anymore. So yes, I spent more money. I didn't mind one bit, because it's worth every naira. A set I got for 800 naira turned me into a skincare person who now happily pays full price — and tells strangers about it while gesturing vaguely at "the white one" 🌚

And I'll be honest: I still don't know which of those five little bottles is the hero. But my skin is glowing, my face is soft, and I have made peace with the mystery. Some things in life are not meant to be understood. They are only meant to be bought again at full price.

Some of the best purchases come from brands that aren't the biggest names, discovered in the least likely places. For me, it was a little white-and-gold set on Temu. It came into my life as an afterthought in a coupon-fueled cart, and it left me with glowing skin, a new obsession, and one very well-earned "I told you so."

Hehe🤭
