THE FIRST OF MANY
<p>A text notification drags my mind off work to my phone.</p><p>The sender isn't who I expect it to be </p><p>but one that leaves a surprise and a shameless smile </p><p>on my agbaya face. </p><p><br/></p><p>Ladies and gentlemen, the text reads:</p><p>"Hi, hope you're good. Just checking in". I know</p><p>you'd ask why I was making a fuss out of </p><p>an ordinary text. </p><p><br/></p><p>Well, I'll have you know there's nothing ordinary about </p><p>the text especially. Okay, I agree, ordinary words but then</p><p>the sender of said words makes all the </p><p>difference because, boooyyyyyyyy! </p><p>my crush actually took her time, picked her phone, </p><p>and out of the million things to do, </p><p>she decides to shoot me a text. </p><p>How cool is that????! </p><p><br/></p><p>Now, back to the text and why </p><p>it's so much of a big deal, maybe not to you,</p><p>but to me, the one whose phone </p><p>got the text message. It's the first time</p><p>she's sending a message that is not a </p><p>reply to mine. </p><p><br/></p><p>Is it safe to think that maybe, just maybe, </p><p> all my efforts are about to pay off? Or wait,</p><p>I hope this is not me, having premature </p><p>excitement? </p><p><br/></p><p>But who am I deceiving? This feels like, scratch that, </p><p>this IS a win, and a big one at that. </p><p>I know I'm no linguistics expert but those words, her words,</p><p>are way deeper than what they seem.</p><p><br/></p><p>The words, carefully chosen to look as casual as possible, </p><p>are anything but. Now that I think of it, I can't help but </p><p>imagine how many times she might have </p><p>tapped on the backspace key to finally </p><p>land the words that make it to my phone. </p><p><br/></p><p>How this text makes me feel seen does sweet things to my insides. </p><p>Is this what they call butterflies because, there's nothing anyone can tell me, </p><p>this is jedijedi operating on new updates. </p><p><br/></p><p>I believe something beautiful is about to sprout out of this. </p><p>I'd be damned if I allow her regret this absolutely brave </p><p>move. Before she starts thinking I've kept her on read,</p><p>I, a soon-to-be boo, need to reply his love interest. </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>
