CHAPTER NINE

THE WOMAN I BECAME

When I look back at the little girl I once was, sometimes I find it difficult to believe how far I have come.

She was just a child trying to understand a world that had already taken so much from her.

She lost her father at three.

She watched her family struggle.

She left school after primary education because life demanded responsibilities from her.

She worked when she should have been playing.

She worried about food when she should have been worrying about homework.

Then, at thirteen, she lost her mother—the person who meant the world to her.

After that, her family was separated, and she was taken to Lagos.

That little girl had every reason to believe that life would always be difficult.

But she kept going.

Today, I understand that the woman I became was built through every one of those experiences.

The pain did not disappear completely.

The memories did not disappear.

But I learned how to carry them without allowing them to control my future.

I became stronger, but I also became more compassionate. Because I knew what it felt like to struggle, I learned to appreciate the struggles of other people.

I learned not to judge someone simply because I did not understand what they were going through.

Everyone has a story.

Everyone carries something.

Some people simply become better at hiding it.

My experiences also taught me to value family.

Losing my parents made me understand that the people we love will not always be with us. That is why I learned to appreciate the moments I have with the people who are still part of my life.

I also learned to appreciate myself.

For a long time, I measured my life by the things I did not have.

I did not have the opportunity to continue my education when I wanted to.

I did not have my parents beside me as I grew older.

I did not have the easy childhood I sometimes wished for.

But eventually, I stopped focusing only on what was missing.

I started looking at what I had.

I had life.

I had experience.

I had faith.

I had courage.

I had dreams.

And I had a story worth telling.

My mother remained one of the greatest influences in my life. Her memory reminded me of the kind of person I wanted to be.

A woman of faith.

A woman of strength.

A woman who could love others even during difficult times.

A woman who would not allow hardship to completely destroy her kindness.

I cannot bring my mother back.

But I can carry her legacy forward.

Every time I choose kindness, I remember her.

Every time I choose faith during difficult times, I remember her.

Every time I refuse to give up, I remember the strength she showed me.

In many ways, she is still walking with me.

The woman I became was not created by easy circumstances.

She was created by challenges.

She was shaped by loss.

She was strengthened by responsibility.

She was guided by faith.

And she was carried forward by hope.

I have learned that being strong does not mean pretending that nothing hurts.

It means acknowledging the pain and still choosing to move forward.

It means admitting that some days are difficult and still believing that tomorrow can be better.

It means accepting that the past cannot be changed while refusing to let the past determine the future.

I am proud of the woman I became.

Not because my life is perfect.

Not because I have never made mistakes.

Not because I have never been afraid.

I am proud because I kept going.

There were many opportunities for me to stop believing in myself.

But somehow, I continued.

And now, when I look at my life, I no longer see only the difficult beginning.

I see the journey.

I see the lessons.

I see the people.

I see the moments that changed me.

And I see a woman who is still growing.

My story is not about being perfect.

It is about becoming.

Becoming stronger.

Becoming wiser.

Becoming kinder.

Becoming more confident.

Becoming the person I believe God created me to be.

The little girl who once wondered why life was so difficult could never have imagined the woman she would become.

But perhaps that is the beauty of life.

Sometimes, we cannot see what we are becoming while we are going through the process.

We only understand it when we look back.

And when I look back now, I can finally say:

I did not become who I am because life was easy.

I became who I am because I refused to let the difficulties of my life be the end of my story.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
