THE RIGHT KEYHOLE
<p>We often say in relationships,</p><p>“Communication is key.”</p><p><br/></p><p>But what happens when the gates have giant padlocks</p><p>and the doors that are shut</p><p>refuse to open?</p><p><br/></p><p>What happens when every knock</p><p>isn't met with a who's there?</p><p>but a go away?</p><p><br/></p><p>Every explanation</p><p>with defensiveness and counterbacks.</p><p><br/></p><p>Every vulnerability</p><p>with manipulation</p><p>and another wall.</p><p><br/></p><p>Communication is a key.</p><p><br/></p><p>But a key without a keyhole,</p><p>and a keyhole without a door,</p><p>is useless.</p><p><br/></p><p>Perhaps communication is key</p><p>only to the right keyhole—</p><p><br/></p><p>a listening ear,</p><p>a seeing eye,</p><p>an understanding heart,</p><p>a comforting hand,</p><p>an honest tongue,</p><p>and a mind willing to consider</p><p>that it may not already know</p><p>every single word</p><p>forming on your lips.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because you can speak</p><p>and you can shout</p><p>until your voice becomes a whisper.</p><p><br/></p><p>Explain</p><p>until your words lose their meaning.</p><p><br/></p><p>And still…</p><p><br/></p><p>remain outside a door</p><p>someone has chosen</p><p>to keep locked.</p><p><br/></p><p>Communication requires more</p><p>than a late-night call,</p><p>a talk over a cup of coffee,</p><p>a conversation on a bed</p><p>beneath a dim lamp.</p><p><br/></p><p>It requires more</p><p>than crying eyes</p><p>and expressive hearts.</p><p><br/></p><p>More than a mouth</p><p>willing to speak.</p><p><br/></p><p>It requires a heart</p><p>ready to listen</p><p>to the emotions underneath the words,</p><p><br/></p><p>and eyes</p><p>ready to see</p><p>the face behind the masks.</p>
