When pharmacology became personal

<h3>Hear me out😭</h3>I'm not about to give you another health lecture.If you're a health student reading this,you'll understand me 😹😭. Pharmacology on paper is different from when you're the one experiencing it. The PK and PD sounds great,the side effects look abstract. Until you're the one experiencing it. I was recently sick and admitted in the hospital,and hated every bit of it 😭let's not even talk about the smell of the hospital. You see those drugs? It's like they made me more sick 😂😭I couldn't take it. I had to settle for injections (which I absolutely prefer). A single pill is enough to make me nauseous and short of breath 😭 I was literally fighting to survive the drug's side effects,instead of feeling better. But the one that made me pause is the antimalarials (btw therapy has been extended to five days,and no longer three...thank God I'm done with my course😂😭),I was like "Khairat you cannot study pharmaceutics and medicinal chemistry in vain,how can we make these drugs more palatable and improve patient's compliance,while maintaining maximum efficacy?". Because honestly,one of the many reasons for therapeutic failure is lack of compliance by patients. I mean the drug is hard to swallow for crying out loud 😭. And because I've been searching for a topic to research on lately,I finally settle on antimalarials and patient compliance. Hear me out!!It's not going to be easy, because most of the active ingredients used in formulating the drug itself are extremely bitter. If you're from the early 2000s(I'm not😅but I've learned about it), you'll know chloroquine and how bitter it was. Quinine and quinidine are extremely bitter,so masking the taste and smell is a difficult thing. I know there are drugs that have addressed some of these,but they have some major side effects and formulation problems .I'm thinking towards a drug with less side effects (cuz we can't have a drug with zero side effects),but better efficacy and one that improves patient compliance. That is the whole essence of therapy.There will be issues of excipients, bioavailability, metabolism....name it. But I'm hoping it'll turn out well.And I'm taking my health very seriously now 😂 na to dey carry mosquito repellent and food around, because I cannot experience this again 😭 😭 I still can't tolerate any strong scent. Just thinking of any drug makes me sick sef 😭
