Blooming Conditions
<p>I'm the anomaly,</p><p>the strong, unwithered stalk.</p><p>The most beautiful flower</p><p>that blossoms and survives</p><p>where others go to die.</p><p><br/></p><p>I'm beautiful and tall,</p><p>I'm unique,</p><p>and there's no one that looks like me</p><p>for miles unending.</p><p><br/></p><p>Still,</p><p>I can't breathe.</p><p><br/></p><p>The blocks are choking me,</p><p>but I can't complain.</p><p>They're choking themselves more.</p><p><br/></p><p>They create space for me in the earth,</p><p>shedding cracks</p><p>and loosening soil.</p><p>They let me grow strong, tall, and beautiful,</p><p>all at a cost to themselves.</p><p><br/></p><p>So how could I tell them</p><p>their expectations choke me?</p><p>Their expectant gazes shrink me.</p><p><br/></p><p>I just want to hide,</p><p>to close my blossoms,</p><p>and protect myself from the sun's strong gaze</p><p>and from wandering footsteps.</p><p><br/></p><p>But how do you tell the people</p><p>who suffer for you</p><p>that you can't suffer for yourselve?</p><p><br/></p><p>How do you tell the people who love you</p><p>that their love is like an anchor</p><p>and their expectations are the strong currents</p><p>of the sea?</p>
