Can you love someone and still choose to leave them?

Can you love someone and still choose to leave them?

For a long time, I thought the answer was no.

I used to think that when you truly loved someone, you stayed. You fought for them. You communicated. You forgave. You gave them another chance, and another one, and maybe even another one after that.

I thought leaving meant you didn’t love them enough.

But life has a way of teaching you things you never expected to learn.

Sometimes, you can love someone with your whole heart and still reach a point where you realize that you can’t keep staying.

And that realization is painful.

Because how do you walk away from someone you still care about?

How do you stop yourself from calling them when something reminds you of them? How do you accept that someone who once felt like home is now someone you have to learn to live without?

I think that’s one of the hardest things about leaving someone you love.

You’re not necessarily leaving because the love disappeared.

Sometimes, you’re leaving because you did everything you could.

You tried to communicate.

You tried to understand.

You tried to be patient.

You tried to forgive.

You tried to make things work.

But at some point, you realize that love shouldn’t require you to constantly abandon yourself just to keep another person.

And honestly, choosing yourself doesn’t mean you never loved them.

It means you finally realized that you deserve to be loved in a way that doesn’t constantly make you question your worth, your peace, or your place in someone’s life.

There are people I believe we can genuinely love but still have to let go of.

Not because they are necessarily bad people.

Not because every memory was fake.

Not because the relationship meant nothing.

Sometimes, two people can love each other and still not be good for each other.

Sometimes the timing is wrong.

Sometimes the communication is broken.

Sometimes the relationship becomes more painful than peaceful.

And sometimes, you simply grow into different people.

That doesn’t erase what you once had.

It just means that what once worked may no longer be enough.

I’ve learned that love isn’t always about holding on.

Sometimes love looks like letting go.

It looks like saying, “I love you, but I can’t keep hurting myself just to keep us together.”

And that sentence can be one of the hardest things a person can ever accept.

Because leaving doesn’t mean you suddenly stop missing them.

You may still think about them.

You may still care about how they’re doing.

You may still wish things had turned out differently.

You may even have moments when you wonder if you made the right decision.

But sometimes, missing someone doesn’t mean you should go back to them.

Sometimes, it simply means they were important to you.

And I think that’s something we don’t talk about enough.

You can miss someone and still know you made the right decision.

You can love someone and still choose yourself.

You can forgive someone and still keep your distance.

You can appreciate the memories without wanting the relationship back.

And you can wish someone well without wanting them in your life anymore.

I don’t think leaving someone you love is weakness.

Sometimes, it takes more strength to walk away than it does to stay.

Especially when a part of you is still hoping that things will change.

Maybe that’s what makes it so difficult.

You’re not only saying goodbye to the person.

You’re also saying goodbye to the future you imagined with them.

The plans.

The conversations.

The one day.”

The version of the relationship you kept hoping would eventually exist.

And sometimes, you have to grieve all of that before you can truly move forward.

So, can you love someone and still choose to leave them?

Yes. I believe you can.

Sometimes, leaving is not proof that you never loved them.

Sometimes, leaving is proof that you finally understood that love should include yourself too.

And maybe that’s the kind of love we sometimes forget to give ourselves

Have you ever loved someone but realized that staying was no longer good for you?

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
