I came to this house very young, with one other.

We were accepted so warmly.

Everyone loved us and cared for us, but especially her.

She took extra care of me.

She would always whisper to me that she saw me as a gift given to her.

At night, she held me close to make sure I was warm.

She talked to me about all sorts of things, even when I couldn't respond. I always listened, though, and somehow gave her my response in my own way.

She loved me.

She showed it so much that everyone thought she was doing too much.

Whenever I needed help, she was there.

Whenever I was sick, she took care of me.

I remember one particular day.

I was sick, and she was the only one home with me.

She bought my medicine, sat me down, gave it to me herself and even fed me.

After a few months, another one was brought in.

There were three of us now.

I saw both of them as my brothers.

She took care of all of us.

Everything was going well.

Until one of us fell sick.

Not the simple kind of sickness this time.

I heard her make a call.

She looked so helpless.

There was nothing she could do, so she just sat there staring at him.

We all stayed quiet.

I don't know what we were waiting for.

Then, after a while, there was a knock at the gate.

She rushed to open it.

I followed.

A tall man walked in.

She greeted him and quickly took him to my sick brother, explaining what was wrong and describing his symptoms.

The man barely looked at us.

He went straight to my brother, gave him an injection, said a few things to her and left.

She didn't say anything.

She just sat there staring at Goshen.

And slowly, life left him.

He became still.

She stayed there, staring at him.

I don't know for how long.

Even after he was gone, she kept watching him.

I hated that man immediately.

He killed Goshen.

That's what I thought.

I didn't know then that it was only the beginning.

From that moment, everything changed.

Before I knew what was happening, I'd lost about four more brothers to a viral airborne infection.

It also took most of my friends in the environment.

And she wasn't around during that period.

I heard she had travelled for a while.

I was alone.

That's when the loneliness really set in.

I gave birth again, but the sickness took them too.

It even took their father.

Everyone was disappearing.

Everyone except me.

I didn't understand why.

Why did it keep taking everyone else and leaving me behind?

It felt like I was being punished with every loss.

I couldn't take it anymore.

I kept trying to hold on.

Maybe she'd remember me.

Maybe she'd come back for me.

I was scared.

Really scared.

I tried to communicate my pain to the people around me in the only ways I knew how.

I rebelled.

I stopped barking.

I stopped eating at some point.

I tried everything I could think of.

Nothing got their attention.

So I held on for as long as I could.

Until...

It ended

I drowned in the house pool.

I just hope she doesn't feel too sad about me doing this....

I wrote this from the perspective of my dog, who apparently committed suicide.

I never knew dogs could get depressed until that moment.

I still hope it's not suicide that took Eden.

Take care of your pets🙂
