Figure 8s and Fractured Friendships

Hi guys,

I introduced myself earlier, and by now you all know part of my story.

I wouldn’t necessarily tag myself as a problematic person, but at some point in my life, I was exactly that.

The saying "Show me your friend and I’ll tell you who you are" always sounded so stupid to me because you can’t judge a book by its cover, right? But trust me, your friends matter a lot in life. Choose your friends carefully because, most of the time, they are either your greatest strength or your deepest weakness.

Now, I’ll be sharing how my other friendship ended. When I am determined to get something, I will do whatever is in my power to get it. I am telling you this now so you can understand the context much later in the story.

I met my new set of friends during 100-level, but we were not very close at first. Eventually, I joined their circle and gradually became a part of them. As I mentioned earlier, in every trio, there is always a duo.

I forgot to tell you my friends' names, lol. Amara was the most beautiful of the three of us; she had a perfect shape and beautiful skin. Then there was Kemi. Kemi had a nice shape too, but she wasn’t as beautiful as Amara. I was the only one without a "figure 8" body type, but I was pretty.

I was closer to Amara than Kemi because we loved almost the same things, and she was very friendly and understanding—or so I thought.

During my 200-level days, I confided in Amara about a secret that was bothering me. Guys, please don’t judge me; I truly thought it was a safe space. I treated Amara like my sister. To this day, I still regret not carrying Kemi along with our plans and making her feel like an outsider.

Amara and I used to buy the same outfits because we had almost the exact same taste in clothes. I loved twinning with her, and I thought she loved it too. I guess I was just gullible.

Tell me why, after the friendship breakup, I heard from Kemi that Amara claimed I was trying to compete with her? She told Kemi that she hated showing or telling me whenever she got anything new because I would immediately want to buy it too.

Shocking, right? I never once viewed our friendship as a competition. But we are all different, and people see things uniquely.

So you won't think I am exaggerating, let me tell you something else that happened. My friend got a new phone, and I also needed one because my Android at the time was being very annoying. This was something she already knew.

While I was at home, she called to tell me she had gotten a new iPhone. I replied, "I’m so happy for you o, and my own will come too."

I think she felt offended by that statement. She went behind my back and told Kemi, in her exact words: "I don’t like telling Florence any good news because she always gets jealous and wants to get it too."

I don’t know if I was wrong, but I genuinely felt happy for her and was simply tapping into her blessing.

Please tell me, was I really wrong for saying that?M
