Five Years? Even University course na Four Years.

I am not really a social media person, but I am the kind of person who spends much time learning online. If I have especially small data like 300MB, I will still find my way to TikTok. I may not watch everything, but I will definitely check what is happening. And honestly, I learn a lot there. Social media has become part of everyday life now. You can learn, discover opportunities, share your work, meet people, follow current events, and even build a career. But there is another side. The comment section. It is another university entirely, especially Nigerian TikTok comments. That place can humble a human being.I have always developed the habit of pausing a video to save my data and immediately checking the comments because,, the comments are the actual content. So I was on TikTok recently when I came across a wedding video.At first, I didn't pay attention to it.Bride. Groom. Celebration. People dancing. Then, as usual, I entered the comments.That was where the real wedding was happening. People were talking about how the man met the woman around 2019 before she finally agreed to him in 2024 and married him in 2026.Mad, ohhh. Wait.Five good years?I checked again. You pursued one woman for five years?<blockquote>Bro. What exactly were you waiting for? 😂</blockquote> The Nigerian comment section, of course, did not disappoint me. Someone compared the woman to a footballer who spent his career moving from England to Spain, to Italy, and finally Saudi Arabia (like a retirement plan). Or Ronaldo, who lost World Cup and wants to use 1k goals as GOAT debate. (football fans will grab) Someone said,<blockquote>“Even university coursena four years.”</blockquote>Another said,<blockquote>“Where everybody dey bring CD, e reach your turn, you bring flower. 😢 ”</blockquote>I nearly died. 😂 Another person in vawulence voice: How did bro move from Buhari's era, when petrol was still around ₦200 per liter, to the Tinubu era, where it is around ₦1,600? Alot, at some point, I stopped watching the video and focused on comments.Because Nigerians don't need Netflix.Give us a relationship story and internet access.We will produce Season 1, Season 2, behind-the-scenes, and director's cut. But I started thinking about it beyond the jokes.Five years is a long time. Think about everything that happened between 2019 and 2024.In 2019, I was in SS2. Today, I have graduated from university, and I am thinking about NYSC and what comes next.COVID happened.People got married and had children.People changed jobs, careers, cities, religion, hairstyles, phones, political parties, and favorite football clubs. 😂 And this man is still saying:<blockquote>“I still love her.”</blockquote>OmoLife is moving. I even started wondering, what exactly made this woman so special? 😂Was it the beauty?Her BOOBS?The attraction?<blockquote>What exactly made this man wait for five years”?</blockquote>Because five years is not two weeks. Then I remembered my own experience.About a month ago, I asked one of my closest female friends out.Not marriage. ohhJust boyfriend and girlfriend. 😂 She was my bestie, someone I really cared about. But at some point, I stopped pretending that I only saw her as a friend. I told her how I felt. She said she didn't feel the same way. And that was the endI didn't even spend 24 hours trying to convince her.I didn't prepare PowerPoint presentations titled<blockquote>Why You Should Date Me?</blockquote>I just accepted it. Of course, I wondered why she rejected me.Maybe one day I will become successful, and she will look at me and say,<blockquote>“Ah. See what I lost.” 😂</blockquote>We shall see.But I moved on.I can't even remember the last time we talked. I have forgotten her ASAP.😂 And that is why this five-year pursuit is confusing me.We are always told:“Don't give up.”“Keep trying.”“Fight for what you want.”But sometimes, no is also an answer, and nobody talks about the possibility that the person has already answered you.One thing is persistence; another is refusing to leave the waiting room. And this is how the full story leaked out, because at first, nobody knew what had really happened. Everybody just saw wedding content on TikTok. 😂Until the woman was asked:<blockquote>“How did you meet your man?”</blockquote>She could have said:“I met him; he asked me out. I rejected him, but eventually I accepted, and we got together.”Simple, no problem.But she gave us the director's cut. “He asked me out in 2019.”“I rejected him.”“He tried to get my number through my friend.”“They collected money from him and didn't give him the number.”“He later got my number.”“Five years," and now we are married. The internet wey no send you:“Oyaa!!! Bring popcorn.” 😂 Almost seven years from meeting to wedding.This man deserves an award.Most Persistent Nigerian Man—2019–2026. 😂 This is why we have to be careful about what we share online.You can come online to tell your love story.The internet will turn it into a football analysis, a presidential timeline, etc.That is social media. I pray their marriage lasts long, sha...because 😢💔 So let me ask:Would you pursue someone for five years after rejection, or would you accept the no, move on, and let life happen?
