<p><br/></p><p>_A story on Music and Entertainment_</p><p><br/></p><p>*Name*: Kemi </p><p>*Hometown*: Surulere, Lagos </p><p>*Dream*: Be a singer. </p><p>*Reality*: ₦0, one phone, and a noisy face-me-I-face-you.</p><p><br/></p><p>*Year 1: The Bedroom Era*</p><p>Kemi started posting 15-sec covers on TikTok and Instagram. </p><p>Phone mic. No autotune. Backdrop = her wardrobe. </p><p>First 20 videos: 8 views, 2 likes — one from her mom.</p><p><br/></p><p>People laughed. "Music doesn’t pay o." "Get a real job."</p><p><br/></p><p>But Kemi had 2 rules:</p><p>1. *Post every week* — consistency > perfection</p><p>2. *Learn the business* — she watched YouTube on mixing, branding, copyright</p><p><br/></p><p>She used ₦15,000 to record 1 song in a small studio in Yaba. </p><p>Paid with her sales-girl salary.</p><p><br/></p><p>*Year 2: The Break + The Hustle*</p><p>One cover blew up. 500k views. </p><p>A small event planner DM’d: "Can you perform for ₦30,000?" </p><p>She said yes. Borrowed dress. Took danfo.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then came the hard part of entertainment:</p><p>- *Health*: Performing with malaria because "they paid me"</p><p>- *Money*: Promoters owing her. Studio time expensive.</p><p>- *Safety*: Late nights, fake friends, pressure to "be a certain way"</p><p><br/></p><p>Kemi almost quit. Then her producer told her: </p><p>*"Entertainment is 20% talent. 80% business, discipline, and people."*</p><p><br/></p><p>So she treated it like business.</p><p>- Registered her songs</p><p>- Built a team: manager, sound guy, 1 dancer</p><p>- Started doing jingles for small brands to pay bills</p><p><br/></p><p>*Year 3: Splendiferous*</p><p>A brand saw her jingle and booked her for a campaign. </p><p>That money funded her EP: *"Surulere Love"*. </p><p>Radio played it. TikTok used it. </p><p><br/></p><p>Last month, Kemi performed at her first big show. 5,000 people. </p><p>Her mom was in the front row crying.</p><p><br/></p><p>Kemi said on stage: </p><p>*_"I started with noise and one phone. </p><p>If you have a gift, package it, protect it, and work it like a job. </p><p>Entertainment is not just vibes. It’s vision."__</p><p><br/></p><p>Today she employs 4 people. She mentors 10 girls who sing covers. </p><p>And she still posts from her bedroom sometimes — to remind herself.</p><p><br/></p>
At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
