Growing up, adults had a special way of making sure we behaved. They did not need Google.They did not need long explanations. They simply gave us a warning so confidently that we never dared to question it. 😂 As girls, one of the biggest warnings we heard was: “Don't let any boy touch you. You will get pregnant.” 😭😂 A boy could simply tap your shoulder and you would quickly move away. Someone could accidentally bump into you and you would look at yourself like, “Wait… am I pregnant now?” 😂 Nobody explained how pregnancy actually happened. They just wanted us to stay away from boys, and honestly, the fear was enough to keep us six feet away. 😭 Then there was the famous one: “Don't sit on the doorstep. You will never get married.” You immediately stood up. You did not even ask what sitting on a doorstep had to do with marriage. 😂 “Don't whistle at night. Something will answer you.” Once it was dark, your lips were sealed. No whistling. No experiments. Nothing. 😂 And if it was raining while the sun was shining at the same time? “Lion is giving birth.” 🦁😂 As a child, you would look around wondering where exactly the lion was hiding. Nobody questioned the science. That was simply the explanation. Then there was: “Don't point at the moon.” You did not need to know why. You just kept your fingers to yourself. 😂 And if you accidentally swept someone's feet? “You have swept away your luck!” You would immediately start wondering how to bring the luck back. 😭 Looking back now, some of these beliefs were traditional superstitions, some were ways of teaching children caution, and some were simply creative ways adults used to keep us from misbehaving. But honestly... They worked. 😂 We believed everything because adults said it with so much confidence. And now that we are older, some of those childhood warnings are actually hilarious to remember. But I have to admit... Sometimes, when I am about to do something unusual, one of those old warnings suddenly comes back to my mind. And I pause. “Let me not try it.” 😂 Childhood was truly a mixture of innocence, imagination, culture, and plenty of warnings.
