Jack of all trade, master of none.

Jack of All Trades, Master of NoneThat's what they called me. It was painful at some point...Until it wasn't. Hey, I'm Ealo.And I'm an everythingpreneur.🌚 As shocking as that sounds, I'm not using it as a figure of speech. I've actually done countless things and attempted countless things for lots of reasons, and not all of them had anything to do with earning. Let's backtrack a little. I started earning when I was 15. Around that time, I took my first design course because I found it genuinely fascinating. My brother also paid for a coding course for me. He said he wanted me to try something new, and coding was something he knew I'd probably excel at. So yeah, that's how I became a designer and a coder. Then I started discovering other things. One thing led to another and, before I even realised what was happening, I'd learnt about 30 different skills across completely different fields; from physical skills to online skills to spiritual ones.🌚 Thirty is just what I could remember when I was writing this. I'm pretty sure there's more. I can boldly say the only things I never tried were Yahoo and HK. 😭 Okay, not to brag. But there's a reason I'm telling you all this. Stick around. By the time I started working full-time, I was still learning. That's when the “Jack of all trades” tag really started following me around. It felt like I was jumping from one thing to another without direction. Someone even once told me I hop around skills the way I'd hop around men. Okay, that's crazy. I promise I didn't do anything to her🙂Or did I? For those who don't know, “Jack of all trades, master of none” is used for someone who knows how to do many things but isn't considered a master of any one thing. And trust me, I got bashed for it. But the thing is, I wasn't learning all these things because I wanted a fancy title. There were reasons behind almost everything I picked up. I learnt some things out of sheer curiosity. I'd become interested in something, take a course, get deeper into it and somehow end up taking two or three more courses before I even realised what I was doing. I learnt some because my parents thought they were suitable for me. They were useful, just not things I particularly enjoyed. I learnt some because I genuinely loved them. I learnt some because I wanted to prove a point; that a woman can enter a field and still do excellently well. I learnt some because they paid more. And I learnt some simply because I wanted to know what it was like. Long story short, I was learning all these things while trying to find...ME And somewhere along the line, I realised something. "We really don't give ourselves enough permission to be more than one thing." At some point, you're expected to pick a path. Pick a course. Pick a career. Pick a skill. Pick something and stick to it. And once you've picked, everything else suddenly becomes a distraction. But why? Why can't I be a designer and a writer? Why can't someone be a doctor who also makes music? Why can't a lawyer learn photography just because they enjoy it? Why can't a programmer decide they want to learn fashion? Why do we act like choosing one thing means everything else has to die? You can learn something without turning it into your career. You can be interested in something without needing a five-year plan for it. You can discover that you're good at something you never imagined you'd enjoy. You can start something at 20, abandon it at 23, pick it up again at 27 and still have gained something from the experience. You are allowed to evolve. You're allowed to outgrow things. You're allowed to discover new versions of yourself. And honestly, I think that's what I've been doing all along. I wasn't collecting skills just to be able to say, “Look at me, I can do 30 things.” I was trying things. Testing myself. Finding things I loved. Finding things I hated. Finding things I was surprisingly good at. Finding things I never wanted to touch again. 😂 And somehow, through all that experimenting, I accumulated a ridiculous amount of knowledge without an equally ridiculous pile of certificates to show for it. People will always have opinions about that. I'm sure someone reading this is already thinking,“This girl is jobless. She didn't see shege, so she started learning everything.” But that's really not it. People are very quick to judge a path they don't understand. I'm writing this because I want you to give yourself permission to explore too. There is so much information in this world. So many fields. So many skills. So many versions of you that you haven't met yet. Why decide you're only going to be one thing? I have plenty of fields I still want to explore, and I will. Not because I need to turn every single thing into a career. Sometimes, I just want to know. I want to understand. I want to see if I can do it. I want to experience what it's like to walk into an entirely unfamiliar field and slowly become good at it. I'm an obsessed learner. And I'm not going to shrink myself into one box simply because that's what makes sense to everybody else. So call me a Jack of all trades. I'll take it. But I'm not accepting the “master of none” part. I'll become really damn good at the things I decide to keep. I don't know how many things I'll become in this lifetime. And honestly? I don't think I need to know yet. I just know I want to experience as much of this world as I possibly can.
