You son of a bitch! This, has been going on for weeks, keeping us all worried about the safety of our properties not knowing you are the brain behind. But today, we will bring you to justice ourselves. Just like it's been said overtime, everyday for the thief, one day for the owner. In this case, you are the thief and we're the <a class="tc-blue" href="https://owners.We" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">owners.We </a> have been the victims. We have suffered in your <a class="tc-blue" href="https://hands.We" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">hands.We </a> are in the best position to adjudicate this ourselves". Those were the words of the Community Head of the heart of Lagos - Lagos Island, on a bright Monday morning to the thief they all claimed to have caught. For weeks, there has been many cases of theft reported to the local police station but nothing has been said or done about it. That is why the Community Head stated that they [He and other residents] are the owners, who are in the best position to judge the case as they are frustrated. " Please, can someone listen to me.... I'm not a thief. I have never stolen all my life. I don't keep what isn't mine. You need to believe me please... " " Hahaha 😂😂😂... We should believe you? We do believe you, that you're the thief. What else is there to believe?, said Mr. Alaka, the community head. "See, I don't have all day. I can't do this chit-chat with you. Boys...."He continued as he signaled to some guys. Just like that, the fire was lit. All that was heard was the fainting voice of a man crying for help. The mob stayed, watching him die. Minutes later, a van drove hastily in the neighborhood and halted in front of Mr. Alaka's house. The burning body lies in front of his house as the Police officers stepped out of the van, dragging a man with them. "You just murdered the innocent man, this is the real culprit",said one of the officers. Silence fell heavily. The tyre was still burning.The man on the floor was new in the neighborhood. He was innocent. The atmosphere was tense. Mr. Alaka's face was down. He couldn't even raise his head up. He tried to speak but it's as if he has lost his voice. From the mob, a voice was heard "We have just killed the person we're supposed to protect" *******************************And that's exactly what Jungle justice does. It buries the truth, kills the innocent and turns everyone in the mob into a murderer. By the time the real thief was caught two streets away, an innocent man was already gone. Jungle justice is not justice, as Mr. Alaka claimed, it is lawlessness disguised as justice. Martin Luther King Jr. believes that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. A just society is not judged by how it treats its best citizens, but by how it treats its suspected worst. Jungle justice shows the failure of the justice system, not the success of the mob. Yes, it is believed that everyday is for the thief and only one day can be for the owner. Then, why not allow the law catch the criminal on that one day instead of resorting to jungle justice. Jungle justice promotes double crime. Under Section 316 of the criminal code, those who take laws into their hands by lynching are also criminals, guilty of murder. Every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution. However, Jungle justice violate this fundamental principle. It does not show the success of the people, it only show two wrongs. And, two wrongs they say, don't make a right. Real justice does not need a mob, it needs a court. We must report crimes to the police and allow the law to take its course. Don't subscribe to Jungle justice. Don't be a party to it. Preach against Jungle justice everywhere you go!
