<p>🤔 LET'S TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH GRAMMAR!</p><p>I have a question, and I genuinely want people to share their thoughts because I believe there is something interesting about this particular English expression.</p><p>Why do we say "How are you?" when addressing just one person instead of saying "How is you?"</p><p>Think about it for a moment. We understand that when referring to a single person or thing, we generally use words like "is", while "are" is commonly associated with plural subjects. For example, we say "How are they?" when referring to more than one person. But when speaking to just one person, we still say "How are you?"</p><p>Now, my question is: Why is that the case? If "you" refers to one person in this situation, why don't we say "How is you?" Is there a grammatical rule that explains this, or is it connected to the history and development of the English language?</p><p>I'm not trying to challenge the English language or claim that the expression is wrong. I simply want to understand the reasoning behind it.</p><p>I would love to hear from English teachers, grammar enthusiasts, students and anyone who has an explanation.</p><p>Please, don't just say it is correct because that is how we speak English. Explain WHY!</p><p>Let's test our knowledge. Who can give the best explanation? 😂🔥</p>
At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
