OKIRIKA

The thing is, I'm not really a fan of okrika.

Don't get me wrong oo, but I've always had this annoyance towards okrika. I don't like it, and I've always avoided it.

So, this particular day, I was supposed to go and buy my sisters school stuffs.

On getting to the market, I heard one woman shouting, "Bend down select! One-one thousand!"

Omoh, I first wan form steeze. Because normally, how can clothes be that cheap? I carried my face and pretended like I didn't hear anything.

But tell me why one woman lifted a gown, and GUYS!!!

I WAS WOWED!!!

This gown was so beautiful that my annoyance towards okrika almost disappeared on the spot.

I said, "Wait oo, so this is what I've been missing?"

I abandoned my steeze and started searching tirelessly. At this point, I was desperate.

And then, like a miracle from heaven, I saw IT.

A beautiful, flared, emelard gown with flowers.

GUYS, THIS GOWN WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!

Beautiful would honestly be an understatement. The colour? Gorgeous. The design? Stunning. Everything about it was giving what it was supposed to give!

I carried my new treasure home happily, washed it, ironed it, and waited for the perfect opportunity to wear it.

And that opportunity came when I wore it to church.

The gown wasn't too short, it was very comfortable, and it had this slightly off-shoulder style that made it even more beautiful.

The admiration that day? TOP-NOTCH!!!

"Wow, where did you get this dress?"

"Ah-ah, this gown is fine ooo!"

People were admiring my dress, and me? I was just smiling like I just arrived.Β

But honestly, that gown taught me something: sometimes, the things we have already judged are the very things that end up surprising us.

After a while, I stopped wearing my gown because it got really short, but my sister is proudly rocking it now.

And the funniest part? I still can't believe that the same me who used to avoid okrika is now always looking for an opportunity to visit an okrika stand.Β

Sometimes, the real gems aren't in expensive boutiques. Sometimes, they're waiting for you in the most unexpected places.
