Okirika boys Ep9: The last dance

Today is Priest's funeral ceremony. I know you're probably thinking why we would celebrate the passing of a philoSUFFER King. A little back story for you. We had discovered some documents in Priest's shelf. It had our pictures and records of some of the runs we had made. Maybe he was a snitch and couldn't stand himself anymore so he became extra crazy. This information meant that we had been exposed and must take cover. It also meant whoever Priest was in talks with knew their cover was blown too and they'd try to clean their mess up. So, yeah, Priest funeral wasn't a ceremony but a battleground..

I dressed my son up the night before and sent him to my connect in another state. I hugged my son as though I was never going to see him again. That was the first time I cried in my entire life. My son said daddy don't cry, na Man you be, face up, shoulders high, hold yourself. That was what I taught him. I said my pikin, Junior, our eyes locked and I knew he could sense my pain but not understand it. I kissed his forehead tickled him a bit and walked away. He said daddy I love you. I responded I love you son. But couldn't look him in the eye. I was broken and figured this was all I ever wanted to be, a father. But, what kind of father walks away from his son.

As people walked round Priest's body paying their last respect, we started hearing gunshots. We knew Shadow would show up without am invitation. He wasn't alone. The exchange was intense. We also heard Police sirens from a distance and we knew this was going to be fun. Everybody go collect. We had more soldiers and home advantage but they had more fire power and training. The scores were crazy and it started raining. We had one last job and that was to not die alone. Nana was the first to fall but he took a lot of people with him. He died a soldier an fought till his last breath. As I ran with Storm through the streets as the battle continued, the gunshots got even closer. I scaled a wall, stretched my hand and noticed that storm was limping towards the wall. Honestly Storm could have still made it out but then walls walls walls. She was locked in and it reminded me of that unsuspecting girl I saw at the cave many years back. Storm started hitting her self, screaming, banging her head on the wall and the she turned back and charged at the guys chasing her. They opened fire at her and it was a painful scene to watch. She fell and was sobbbing with holes in her body. As they drew closer to her, she started laughing and then she pressed the detonator in her palm. I screamed Stormmm.

I had gotten so far away from the battle that I thought I was free. I sha no loose guard. Then I heard Samuel, wida you, and then a gun shot followed. It was Shadow. He chased me and we exchanged fire. As we scrambled through the ruins of the hood, we found ourselves in the barbershop. I had fired 6 shots at Shadow and he had fired 5 shots at me. We both held a 6-Shot revolver gun. I had lowered my guard and Shadow started capping. I reminded him of what happened to him in that very barbershop but he didn't buy it. He thought Priest had told me. I recounted the experience but it triggered him to pull the trigger. You see, if you're going to kill a man, ensure you do it properly. This was something Shadow should have know. He shot me in my stomach and said I would die a slow and painful death. While in pain, I pointed my gun at him and he laughed thinking I had no bullets. He even walked close to me and placed his head on the gun. He didn't know my first shot fired at him was not with this gun. I smiled at him, moved the gun away from his face and shot into the roof. As I fell to the ground, his eyes lit up in shock. Normally everywhere go first blur.
