Stop Looking Down On Art student
<p><br/></p><p>For Naija, if you say you be art student, some people go look you like say you no get sense.</p><p>I'm speaking from experience </p><p><br/></p><p>I don hear am tire.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Why you no do Medicine?"</p><p>"Art na for people wey no sabi science."</p><p>"Na so so story you go dey read for 4 years?"</p><p><br/></p><p>I dey 100 level. Art department. And I don see how parents and society dey prejudice against us.</p><p><br/></p><p>My cousin and my brother's dey science, everybody dey hail them. "Future doctor!" Me wey dey art, dem dey ask "Wetin you go use am do?"</p><p><br/></p><p>But make we talk true.</p><p><br/></p><p>Who write the books wey science students dey read? Art student.</p><p><br/></p><p>Who write the law wey dey govern this country? Art student.</p><p><br/></p><p>Who dey act film, write song, do news for TV wey una dey watch every night? Art student.</p><p><br/></p><p>Who go teach your pikin for school? Art student.</p><p><br/></p><p>Without art, society na empty noise. No story. No culture. No history. No communication. Na just machine.</p><p><br/></p><p>People think art na easy because e no get chemical formula. But dem no know say to write 3,000 words essay wey go make sense, to stand for class defend your argument, to understand human being and society - na hard work.</p><p><br/></p><p>Science fit build house. But na art go make the house feel like home.</p><p><br/></p><p>My papa and mama dey always ask me say "This art so wey u dey wetin u wan use am do but my main purpose and objective nar to show Dem say I dey capable of becoming something with being an ENL student </p><p><br/></p><p>Art na course. E get value. E get money inside if you sabi am.</p><p><br/></p><p>So to all parents: Stop telling your pikin say art na useless course .You dey kill im creativity.</p><p><br/></p><p>And to my fellow art students for 100L or above like me: No shame for your course. Carry am for head. Because na we be the voice, the story, the culture of this country.</p><p><br/></p><p>Without art, science na just silent lab.</p><p><br/></p><p>*My question: You don ever experience this prejudice because you be art student?
