THE AUDACITY OF BEING
<p>I find it funny</p><p>how we spend our whole lives</p><p>trying to become somebody,</p><p>only to spend the rest</p><p>trying to remember who we were.</p><p><br/></p><p>We dress our fears in ambition,</p><p>call our silence maturity,</p><p>and our exhaustion discipline.</p><p><br/></p><p>What a beautiful scam!</p><p><br/></p><p>We are told to think outside the box,</p><p>but heaven forbid</p><p>we step outside the line.</p><p><br/></p><p>Everybody wants a voice,</p><p>until the voice has an opinion.</p><p><br/></p><p>Everybody wants the truth,</p><p>until the truth knows their address.</p><p><br/></p><p>And somehow,</p><p>we call this freedom.</p><p><br/></p><p>But I refuse</p><p>to spend my one life</p><p>being a well-behaved version</p><p>of somebody else's imagination.</p><p><br/></p><p>Let me be wrong.</p><p>Let me be strange.</p><p>Let me change my mind</p><p>without submitting a written explanation.</p><p><br/></p><p>After all,</p><p><br/></p><p>Even the alphabet</p><p>had to start somewhere</p><p>before it became a language.</p><p><br/></p><p>And I?</p><p><br/></p><p>I am still learning</p><p>how to spell myself.</p><p><br/></p><p>Perhaps that is the audacity of being human.</p>
