<p>To whoever keeps walking past me sighing "not yet" —</p><p>I would like to file a formal complaint,</p><p>and I'd like to file it now, while I still have the energy,</p><p>because that window is closing fast.</p><p><br/></p><p>Speaking of windows — I've been sitting here so long</p><p>the bananas started talking about me.</p><p>Bananas! The nepo babies of produce,</p><p>yellow from day one, no effort, all applause.</p><p>Meanwhile I'm doing actual work over here,</p><p>green to yellow to something worth your time,</p><p>and nobody's clapping for that.</p><p><br/></p><p>Which brings me to the poking.</p><p>You poked me twice this morning.</p><p>POKED. Like I'm a mattress at a showroom.</p><p>I am not "testing firm," sir, I am "becoming" —</p><p>and while we're on the subject of getting my identity wrong,</p><p>I am not a banana's weird cousin either.</p><p>I am plantain. I require heat, oil, and a little respect,</p><p>in that exact order, no substitutions.</p><p><br/></p><p>And I've earned that respect, frankly,</p><p>because look at everything I've sat through:</p><p>three of your group chats,</p><p>one full breakdown about your landlord,</p><p>a nap you didn't even need —</p><p>and through all of it, I just stayed here,</p><p>quietly, unglamorously, ripening,</p><p>which is more than I can say for you this week.</p><p><br/></p><p>So here's the deal, since we've come this far:</p><p>slice me, fry me, set me down next to some beans,</p><p>and I promise I'll be the best decision</p><p>you've made in days —</p><p>which, again, given your week,</p><p>isn't exactly a high bar,</p><p>but I will clear it anyway,</p><p>gracefully, and still slightly annoyed at you.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sincerely,</p><p>The Only One In This Kitchen Who's Actually Growing</p>
