<p style="text-align: justify; "><strong>Part Four: The Things We Understand Too Late</strong></p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Years passed quietly.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">The shop grew.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Musa grew with it.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">His voice became deeper. His shoulders became broader. The small boy who once stood by the window watching students now stood behind the counter serving customers.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">People began to trust him with the shop.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">His father would smile.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Musa would smile too.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Nobody asked him whether this was what he wanted.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Perhaps because by then, he had stopped asking himself.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Zainab, meanwhile, had finished secondary school.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">One evening, she came home carrying an admission letter.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Not jealousy.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Something older.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Something he thought he had buried.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">That night, his father found him sitting outside.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Not because anything was funny.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">But because he suddenly remembered the boy who had written them.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">That boy had believed his life was waiting for him.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Musa folded the paper again.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">This time, he didn't put it under his pillow.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">He placed it inside his father's old drawer.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">And for the first time, he wondered whether some things are not lost because we failed to hold onto them...</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">but because somebody else decided they weren't important enough to keep.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><strong>To be continued.....</strong></p>
