THE GIRL WHO SENT ME 10MILLION BY MISTAKE.. PART 4- THE REAL MISTAKE
<p><span style="background-color: transparent;">Amara stared at me.</span></p><p><br/></p><p>I stared at her.</p><p><br/></p><p>Neither of us knew what to say.</p><p><br/></p><p>Finally, she whispered:</p><p><br/></p><p>“You believe that video?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“I don't know.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“You think I betrayed you?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“I don't know.”</p><p><br/></p><p>She nodded slowly.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Fair.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she stood up.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Let's go.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“Where?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“To my house.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“Why?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“Because there's something you need to see.”</p><p><br/></p><p>We left the café.</p><p><br/></p><p>Neither of us spoke during the drive.</p><p><br/></p><p>When we arrived, she opened an old box.</p><p><br/></p><p>Inside were documents.</p><p><br/></p><p>Photographs.</p><p><br/></p><p>Bank statements.</p><p><br/></p><p>Emails.</p><p><br/></p><p>Everything.</p><p><br/></p><p>She placed them on the table.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she said:</p><p><br/></p><p>“You weren't investigating my boss.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I looked at her.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You were investigating me.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“What?”</p><p><br/></p><p>She handed me a document.</p><p><br/></p><p>It was a contract.</p><p><br/></p><p>My name was on it.</p><p><br/></p><p>I read it twice.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then a third time.</p><p><br/></p><p>I had been hired six months ago to investigate Amara.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not her boss.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because someone believed she had stolen millions from the company.</p><p><br/></p><p>But as I investigated her, I discovered she was innocent.</p><p><br/></p><p>She had been framed.</p><p><br/></p><p>So I switched sides.</p><p><br/></p><p>I started helping her.</p><p><br/></p><p>That's why we had the photographs.</p><p><br/></p><p>That's why we had the emails.</p><p><br/></p><p>That's why I knew about the money.</p><p><br/></p><p>But there was one problem.</p><p><br/></p><p>Someone had discovered what we were doing.</p><p><br/></p><p>And they erased the evidence.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not literally.</p><p><br/></p><p>They destroyed the files, deleted the accounts and forced me out of the investigation.</p><p><br/></p><p>But before they could destroy everything…</p><p><br/></p><p>I prepared one final move.</p><p><br/></p><p>The ₦10 million.</p><p><br/></p><p>I had arranged for it to be transferred to my account.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then I disappeared.</p><p><br/></p><p>But there was something I didn't know.</p><p><br/></p><p>The transfer never happened.</p><p><br/></p><p>Until six months later.</p><p><br/></p><p>When Amara accidentally sent the money.</p><p><br/></p><p>I looked at her.</p><p><br/></p><p>“So…”</p><p><br/></p><p>She nodded.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You didn't accidentally send me the money.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“No.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“I did.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“Yes.”</p><p><br/></p><p>We both stared at each other.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then I laughed.</p><p><br/></p><p>“So I basically sent myself ₦10 million…”</p><p><br/></p><p>She smiled.</p><p><br/></p><p>“…through you.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“Yes.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“That is the stupidest plan I've ever heard.”</p><p><br/></p><p>She laughed.</p><p><br/></p><p>“I know.”</p><p><br/></p><p>We sat there laughing.</p><p><br/></p><p>After everything.</p><p><br/></p><p>The threats.</p><p><br/></p><p>The lies.</p><p><br/></p><p>The photographs.</p><p><br/></p><p>The missing memories.</p><p><br/></p><p>The money.</p><p><br/></p><p>It turned out the biggest mistake wasn't the transfer.</p><p><br/></p><p>It was believing the story was over.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because just as we were about to leave, my phone vibrated.</p><p><br/></p><p>One new message.</p><p><br/></p><p>From an unknown number.</p><p><br/></p><p>YOU FOUND THE MONEY.</p><p><br/></p><p>Another message arrived.</p><p><br/></p><p>YOU FOUND THE TRUTH.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then a third.</p><p><br/></p><p>BUT YOU STILL HAVEN'T FOUND THE PERSON WHO HIRED YOU.</p><p><br/></p><p>I looked at Amara.</p><p><br/></p><p>She looked at me.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Who hired you?” she asked.</p><p><br/></p><p>I shook my head.</p><p><br/></p><p>“I don't know.”</p><p><br/></p><p>She frowned.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You don't remember?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“No.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Then my phone rang.</p><p><br/></p><p>I answered.</p><p><br/></p><p>A man's voice said:</p><p><br/></p><p>“Congratulations.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“Who is this?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“You did exactly what I needed.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I stood up.</p><p><br/></p><p>“What do you mean?”</p><p><br/></p><p>The man laughed.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You thought you were investigating Amara.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I looked at her.</p><p><br/></p><p>“But you were actually investigating yourself.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I froze.</p><p><br/></p><p>“What?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“You weren't hired six months ago.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You were hired two years ago.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I couldn't breathe.</p><p><br/></p><p>The man continued:</p><p><br/></p><p>“And you didn't forget what happened six months ago.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“Then what happened?”</p><p><br/></p><p>He laughed.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You forgot everything.”</p><p><br/></p><p>The call ended.</p><p><br/></p><p>I looked at Amara.</p><p><br/></p><p>She was staring at me.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she slowly picked up the photograph from the table.</p><p><br/></p><p>The one of us together.</p><p><br/></p><p>She turned it over.</p><p><br/></p><p>There was writing behind it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Something neither of us had noticed before.</p><p><br/></p><p>Four words.</p><p><br/></p><p>WE WERE MARRIED FIRST.</p><p><br/></p><p>I stared at her.</p><p><br/></p><p>She stared at me.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she whispered:</p><p><br/></p><p>“I think…”</p><p><br/></p><p>She paused.</p><p><br/></p><p>“…we need to talk.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I laughed.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Definitely.”</p><p><br/></p><p>She smiled.</p><p><br/></p><p>And for the first time since this entire mess started…</p><p><br/></p><p>neither of us knew what would happen next.</p><p><br/></p><p>But there was one thing I finally understood.</p><p><br/></p><p>The ₦10 million was never the real mystery.</p><p><br/></p><p>It was just the beginning.</p><p><br/></p><p>THE END.</p>
At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
