The Great Scent Fast (or: How I’m Testing My Own Willpower)

Let’s get one thing straight: perfume is not just a cosmetic for me. It is my sanctuary. It is my happy place, my armor, and my favorite way to escape when the world gets a little too loud. If therapy is out of budget, a bottle of warm vanilla, smoky oud, or dark amber usually does the trick. My collection isn’t just glass on a tray; it’s a mood ring for my sanity.

Which is why what I’m about to say requires a bit of a dramatic pause.

I am taking a hiatus.

A break. A complete, cold-turkey freeze on spending my own money on fragrance until at least the end of October. (And honestly, pray for me, because I’m giving myself a 50/50 chance of survival.)

Now, before anyone accuses me of reckless self-deprivation, let’s establish The Other Hand Rule so we are crystal clear on the operational guidelines:

Self-Purchases: Absolute zero. Frozen assets. I am banned from swiping my card for so much as a 10ml travel spray.

The "Gifting" Loophole: Fully active. If you feel inspired by the heavens to buy me a bottle? I will receive it with open hands, zero guilt, and a emotional thank-you speech.

The "Perfume Date" Exception: Non-negotiable. If you say, "Hey, let’s go perfume shopping, my treat," do not hesitate. I already have three spot recommendations lined up, and I will be sitting in your passenger seat before you even finish the sentence. My money is taking a sabbatical; my nose is still very much open for business.

The real test happened today. I went to the supermarket for basic adult essentials, ya'know, actual survival items like bathing soap and toilet paper, and my feet somehow navigated directly to the fragrance aisle on autopilot.

I stood there staring at the shelves like a protagonist in a dramatic romance novel, mentally adding one, two… okay, ten bottles to my cart. The physical restraint required to not pick up just one was Olympian. My right hand was reaching out, my left hand was physically holding my wrist back, and my brain was running an internal commentary about my severe lack of discipline.

I held the line and walked away empty-handed, but I felt like I deserved a medal just for walking past the cashier.

So here I am, down to my last three reliable pen perfumes, praying to the scent gods that I don't grow tired of them before November rolls around.

Wish me luck. You’ll hear from me the moment the withdrawal symptoms fully set in.

Let’s Talk in the Comments:

To my fellow scent addicts: What is the one perfume note you genuinely could not survive two months without?

To my enablers: If you were taking me on a perfume date today, what bottle are you buying me first? Drop your recommendations below, I’m taking notes for the "accepted gifts" wishlist (Kaly is already on there 😂)! 👇🧴✨
