THE POWER OF BELIEF
<p><br/></p><p>They say</p><p>power resides</p><p>where people believe</p><p>it resides.</p><p>And perhaps</p><p>that is the greatest power</p><p>humanity has ever known.</p><p>A king is only a king</p><p>because people</p><p>believe in his crown.</p><p>A throne is only a throne</p><p>because people</p><p>believe the person sitting on it</p><p>deserves to be there.</p><p>A flag is only a piece of cloth</p><p>until millions of people</p><p>decide that it represents</p><p>something worth dying for.</p><p>Money is only paper</p><p>until the world agrees</p><p>that it has value.</p><p>And fear</p><p>fear becomes powerful</p><p>when we believe</p><p>it can control us.</p><p>Perhaps belief</p><p>is the invisible hand</p><p>behind the world.</p><p>We believe</p><p>someone is powerful,</p><p>so we treat them</p><p>as powerful.</p><p>We believe</p><p>someone is important,</p><p>so we listen</p><p>when they speak.</p><p>We believe</p><p>we are weak,</p><p>and suddenly</p><p>every obstacle</p><p>becomes a wall.</p><p>We believe</p><p>we cannot succeed,</p><p>and sometimes</p><p>we stop trying</p><p>before failure</p><p>ever gets the chance</p><p>to find us.</p><p>But what happens</p><p>when belief changes?</p><p>What happens</p><p>when the people</p><p>who once bowed</p><p>decide to stand?</p><p>What happens</p><p>when the person</p><p>who was told</p><p>“Ignorance is your destiny”</p><p>decides to learn?</p><p>When the person</p><p>who was told</p><p>“You are nothing”</p><p>decides</p><p>to become something?</p><p>Perhaps</p><p>the greatest prison</p><p>has no walls.</p><p>Perhaps</p><p>it is the belief</p><p>that there is no way out.</p><p>And perhaps</p><p>the greatest weapon</p><p>has no blade.</p><p>Perhaps</p><p>it is the belief</p><p>that you can.</p><p>Because history</p><p>has never been changed</p><p>only by people</p><p>who possessed power.</p><p>It has been changed</p><p>by people</p><p>who believed</p><p>they could create it.</p><p>So I ask:</p><p>Where does your power reside?</p><p>In your money?</p><p>In your position?</p><p>In the people</p><p>who approve of you?</p><p>Or somewhere</p><p>inside you</p><p>waiting for you</p><p>to believe</p><p>that it was there</p><p>all along?</p><p>Because perhaps</p><p>power has never belonged</p><p>to the person</p><p>sitting on the throne.</p><p>Perhaps</p><p>it has always belonged</p><p>to the people</p><p>who believe</p><p>the throne has power.</p><p>And if belief</p><p>can give power</p><p>to a throne,</p><p>what could it give</p><p>to a human being</p><p>who finally believes</p><p>in themselves?</p>
