THE PRICE OF DIGNITY

A poor man's truth is often ignored, His worth is measured by what he can't afford. The rich speak once, and wisdom is found, The poor speak twice, and foolishness abounds.

His pockets are empty, so doors remain shut, Yet wealth earns respect that character should. The world bows to fortunes, not the hands that strive, As though money determines who's worthy to thrive.

The poor are judged by the clothes that they wear, While the rich are forgiven for sins they declare. One steals out of hunger, another for greed, Yet only one wears the shame of his deed.

He bows to the world just to earn his bread, Swallows his pride and the words left unsaid. For poverty taxes more than the purse, It makes dignity feel like a terrible curse.

But tell me, if wealth is the measure of man, What becomes of dignity no money can buy? If poverty strips you of society's grace, Was respect ever yours, or borrowed by place?

Gold cannot measure the worth of a soul, Nor can riches make broken characters whole. For the grave asks no questions of status or birth, And takes both the wealthy and poor from the earth.
