Last night, I asked my younger sister for a Nollywood movie to watch. I'm not really a Nollywood fan, but sometimes I feel like watching one.

She asked, "Have you watched 'Out Of Time'?" I said no. She sent it to me.

At first I was reluctant to watch it, but something shifted inside me. I opened MX Player and pressed play.

Boom. First scene — my favorite actress, Sariah Martin. I knew it would be interesting.

The story is about a single mother chased from her apartment for owing six months rent. No family. No friends. No support. Raising a baby boy diagnosed with heart failure, in coma for three months in ICU, waiting for a donor that may never come.

She went through hell. No way to pay weekly medical bills. She did odd jobs, got harassed, humiliated. When she had nowhere to stay, she slept in an uncompleted building, still determined to save her boy.

When her son went into shock, she ran to a boutique shop to beg for help. The owner didn't show sympathy. He offered help on condition she sleep with him. She agreed — she had a life to save.

She worked at a canteen where she was humiliated. Worked as a cleaner in a hotel where she was raped and paid for it.

Then the doctor called: they found a donor, but it would cost four hundred thousand US dollars.

She lost it. She told him she would get the money by all means.

She reached out to a friend known to be an armed robber and agreed to be the driver. During the operation, the wife of the man they robbed was killed. Police had surrounded the house. Her gang members were killed, she was shot on the shoulder, but she escaped with the money and ran to the hospital.

Her son went into shock again. Doctors tried, but he died.

She went insane. Police arrested her right there in the hospital.

The doctor knew her struggle. He went to the station to defend her but his statement wasn't enough. So he used the media. He told her story — what she endured just to save her son. His voice was heard. The community stood up, protested for her release and created a GoFundMe in her name until she was granted bail.

Moral lesson : A mother will burn the world to save her child. And a system that forces a mother to sell her body, sleep in uncompleted buildings, and rob to pay hospital bills has already failed her.

She shouldn't have needed to go viral to get help. She needed a social worker on day one, not a camera on day 300. GoFundMe should not be our healthcare system. Media should not be the last hope for justice.

But since we live in this reality, speak up. Tell your story. Because you never know who is listening.

I recommend everyone watch "Out Of Time."

@FP

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
