Winter is coming
<p>I am a young Lord of Nigeria,</p><p>born beneath the same sun</p><p>that burns the fields</p><p>and exposes the cracks in our walls.</p><p>I have no castle,</p><p>only a country</p><p>divided into kingdoms</p><p>that call themselves states.</p><p>I have heard the words:</p><p><strong>“Winter is coming.”</strong></p><p>But here,</p><p>winter does not arrive with snow.</p><p>It arrives with empty pockets,</p><p>rising prices,</p><p>forgotten promises,</p><p>and dreams</p><p>slowly losing their names.</p><p>The Iron Throne</p><p>is no longer made of swords.</p><p>It is made of power,</p><p>influence,</p><p>and the wealth</p><p>of those who sit upon it.</p><p>And while the lords</p><p>fight for the throne,</p><p>the people build their homes</p><p>beneath a roof</p><p>that keeps getting smaller.</p><p>A Lannister always pays his debts.</p><p>But in my kingdom,</p><p>some debts are inherited,</p><p>some are forgotten,</p><p>and some are paid</p><p>by generations</p><p>that never created them.</p><p>They tell us to bend the knee</p><p>when we should be standing.</p><p>They tell us to hold the door</p><p>while they walk through it</p><p>and leave us behind.</p><p>And beyond the walls</p><p>are millions of young people</p><p>wondering whether</p><p>there is a place for them</p><p>in the kingdom they were born into.</p><p>I am just a young Lord of Nigeria.</p><p>But I have learned</p><p>that a title means nothing</p><p>when the kingdom is bleeding.</p><p>So perhaps the question</p><p>is not who deserves</p><p>the Iron Throne.</p><p>Perhaps the question is:</p><p>Who will rebuild the kingdom</p><p>when the winter comes?</p>
