If you ask me, there is no difference between the Roman authorities that crucified Jesus and the Christians of today. Especially, the ones in Nigeria.

The Roman authorities didn’t crucify Jesus because they thought he was blasphemous or anything. They did it because he dared to be different from what they had known.

Jesus came and preached that we should lead with love, that we should forgive endlessly and that we should accept people that are not like us. He came and preached that we should respect people’s beliefs even if they differ from ours in every way.

He preached that we shouldn’t be so quick to judge and condemn people who have done wrong. He made us understand that we are all human and we can all make mistakes. What matters is how you fix them.

He told us that even when someone doesn’t want to convert or believe in God, we should not force them but rather walk away.

Furthermore, Jesus came to end the practices that they did in the name of faith. Back then, to repent from sin and be forgiven, people had to bring animal sacrifices to appease God. Aside from this, They also had many other practices that were often too much or too hard to go through all to prove that you have faith. And they did not even do it out of faith or love for God but out of fear.

When Jesus came, His aim was to relieve their fear and make them choose God for themselves. He wanted it to be of their own volition, not because they were scared of being smitten to death on the spot. God hated the fear mongering that was going on, under the guise of being religious.

The funny thing is when people disagreed with what Jesus said because they believed in the Mosaic doctrine, Jesus had to sugarcoat what he said. He paraphrased and told them that he didn’t come to change it but to add to it.

In my opinion, Jesus didn’t mean what he said. He only said it so that they would accept Him, because if he wanted to add to the Mosaic law and not change it, then the law would be an embodiment of the word ‘contradiction.’ Lest I digress.

With the way Christianity is being practiced today, we are not living the way Jesus taught us to live. You people discriminate against people of the LGBTQ+ community, you even kill them , you ostracize rape victims from the church, you guilt trip and shame people at any given chance, you openly and repeatedly support rape culture, you are so judgmental towards people of other religions, and the cherry on top is that anyone who disagrees of you is ‘possessed’ or ‘the devil.’

The same way Jesus was treated by the unbelievers is the same way Christians of today treat anyone who is of a different opinion. You can’t stand a contrary point of view even though that is what Jesus most wanted us to be able to do the.

Jesus first preached to old men at age 12. If a 12-year-old boy came out to preach in opposition of what you believe, would you listen the way those men listened to Jesus? The older generation of Christians can’t even stand a young adult disagreeing with them let along a 12-year-old boy.

In addition to that, there is a very important part of the Bible saying that we should give what belongs to Caesar to Caesar and what belongs to God to God when people asked about paying tax to the government and still paying tithes in church (Matthew 22:21, Mark 12: 17, and Luke 20:25).

I don’t think people really understand this statement. It clearly means that you should separate your Christian life and belief system from your actual life. Not being able to do so is the reason for a lot of cruel things that go unchecked in the world.

It’s the reason you kill and arrest gay people who aren’t Christian because such is a sin in Christianity

It’s the reason rapists aren’t report because ‘God has forgiven him.’

It’s the reason you tell that woman not to leave her husband that almost beat her to death.

It’s the reason you deny abortion for a 12 year old rape victim because the fetus is a ‘gift from God.’

It’s the reason you tell woman that her cheating husband needs prayers and not a divorce.

You can’t look at things objectively. Your judgment is clouded with your false sense of morality. Your radical thinking is overshadowed by your ‘religion.’

Even though we are over two thousand years after Christ, we are still living in the Old Testament. The religion is still as suffocating and as unforgiving as it was before Jesus Christ came.
