<p>AFRICA: THE STORY WE KEEP GETTING WRONG</p><p></p><p>If Africa could speak, I wonder what she would say about the way we tell her story.</p><p></p><p>Would she laugh?</p><p></p><p>Would she be angry?</p><p></p><p>Or would she simply look at us and say, “You still don't understand me.”</p><p></p><p>For years, the world has told Africa's story through poverty, hunger, wars, corruption and suffering.</p><p></p><p>And yes, those things exist.</p><p></p><p>But they are not the whole story.</p><p></p><p>Africa is also the little girl dancing barefoot in the compound because music started playing from the neighbour's radio.</p><p></p><p>She is the mother who can turn almost nothing into a meal and still ask her children, “Have you eaten?”</p><p></p><p>She is the young man learning a skill with a cracked phone because he believes his life can become bigger than his circumstances.</p><p></p><p>She is the student studying under difficult conditions, still dreaming of becoming a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, an artist, a scientist.</p><p></p><p>Africa is the grandmother whose stories survived generations.</p><p><img src="/media/inline_insight_image/e1237fd21cf40094cd0197e4bbb9fd44.jpg" style="background-color: transparent;"/></p><p>She is the colourful fabric.</p><p></p><p>The drums.</p><p></p><p>The languages.</p><p></p><p>The food.</p><p></p><p>The laughter that somehow gets louder during difficult times.</p><p></p><p>She is Afrobeats playing from a roadside shop.</p><p></p><p>She is a child being taught the language her ancestors spoke.</p><p></p><p>She is the artist creating beauty from ordinary things.</p><p></p><p>She is the entrepreneur starting with almost nothing and saying, “Let me try.”</p><p></p><p>But Africa is also complicated.</p><p></p><p>She has been exploited.</p><p></p><p>She has been divided.</p><p></p><p>She has experienced terrible leadership, inequality, conflict and opportunities that never reached the people who needed them most.</p><p></p><p>And sometimes, the people who should build her are the same people holding her back.</p><p></p><p>Yet somehow, she keeps producing people who dream.</p><p></p><p>People who create.</p><p></p><p>People who leave and still carry home in their hearts.</p><p></p><p>People who succeed and turn around to ask, “How can I help the person coming after me?”</p><p></p><p>Maybe that is the part of Africa's story we don't talk about enough.</p><p></p><p>Africa is not simply a continent waiting to be rescued.</p><p></p><p>She is a continent still becoming.</p><p></p><p>Still learning.</p><p></p><p>Still fighting.</p><p></p><p>Still creating.</p><p></p><p>Still dreaming.</p><p></p><p>And perhaps one day, when we finally stop describing Africa only by what she lacks, we will begin to see what she has always carried:</p><p></p><p>possibility.</p><p></p><p>Africa's story is not finished.</p><p></p><p>Maybe the most beautiful chapters haven't even been written yet.</p><p></p><p>And maybe...</p><p></p><p>we are the ones holding the pen.</p><p></p>

Top Engagers
For the Top Engagers Track, we award the top 3 people who engage the most with other user's content via
comments.
The winners are picked using the "Top Monthly Engagers" tab on the rankings page.
Most Engaged Content
The Most Engaged Content recognizes users whose content received the most engagement during the month.
We pick the top 3.

Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
