Amara Again😒😒

Now, now, I know you guys have been waiting to hear the conclusion of this story, but abeg, I’m busy too. 😂😭

Back to my story…

A series of events happened, which I later got to hear about. But there was one particular incident that stood out to me and made me even more determined to leave the friendship. I’ll tell you about it in a bit. 👀

Truth be told, I’m not really an accommodating person, but I try to be for my friends. I don’t like people staying over at my house for long periods, but I made exceptions for my friends.

And one lesson I’ve learnt from friendships is this: learn to set boundaries! If someone does something you don’t like, speak up. Don’t be afraid of confrontation, and don’t keep brushing things off just to maintain peace. Because the more you keep quiet about the things that bother you, the more people take your silence for acceptance, and eventually, you’ll find yourself regretting it.

I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced that feeling where you suddenly feel the need to be careful around someone, especially someone you’ve always been close to.

Well, I woke up one particular day, and it was as if my eyes had suddenly been opened. I started seeing Amara in a completely different light. I began noticing her demeaning behaviour and how she always found a way to belittle my little achievements.

All the subtle comments, little actions, and things I had ignored for years suddenly became so obvious to me. And I started asking myself, “Wait o, is this what I’ve been putting up with all these years?” 😭

You know I mentioned that there was a particular incident that stood out to me? Well, let me tell you what I mean.

So, I ordered a particular dress online because I needed some house clothes. I left the clothes at Amara’s house because Kemi wasn’t in school at the time, and I was still at home.

When I eventually got to school and was checking out the things I had bought, Amara said, and I quote:

“I saw the gown you bought. I tried it on because I wanted to get it too, but I realised it was Nigerian-made, and you know I only wear luxury, so I didn’t buy it.”

Please you still wear Nigerian made outfits.

EXCUSE ME??? 😭😭

First of all, why were you trying on my clothes in my absence? Secondly, who asked for your opinion? And thirdly, the way you casually announced that you only wear luxury, as if the rest of us were wearing clothes made from nylon bags. 😭😂

I didn’t say anything. I just ignored her comment and moved on.

But you know how it is with people. Sometimes, when you don’t set boundaries, they keep testing your limits because they assume you’ll always let things slide.

And then, there was another incident.

I bought a new soap, the same one I had been using at Amara’s place. When Amara came to my house and saw it, she said, “Hope you know it’s the fake one you bought?” As if she wasn’t using the same lol

At this point, I had HAD IT. 😭

I told her, “I know what’s your own.”

Because, please, must you have an opinion about EVERYTHING? 😭😂 Must every single thing I own pass through your quality control department?

At this point, I was done with the friendship. I had reached my limit, and I started withdrawing gradually.

I stopped playing and talking with her as much as I used to. I stopped telling her whether I had money or not, stopped sharing my secrets with her, and generally stopped giving her access to certain parts of my life.

And trust me, I knew she noticed the change because she started acting aggressively towards me. It got to the point where even Kemi began noticing her behaviour.

Omoooo, this story is getting LONG. 🤧🤧😂

And the funny thing is, I haven’t even finished telling you everything!

To be continued… 👀🍿
