BECOMING HER — EPISODE 02

I Am Learning to Choose Myself Without Feeling Guilty.

By TheAnnyX

For a long time, many of us learn to put other people's feelings before our own. We say yes when we want to say no, hide our disappointment to keep others happy and feel guilty whenever we decide to do something for ourselves.

But I'm learning that choosing myself doesn't mean I don't care about others. It means I understand that my needs matter, too.

I can love people without being available every minute. I can help others without exhausting myself. I can say no without writing a long explanation to prove that I'm still a good person.

The truth is, you cannot keep pouring into everyone else while constantly neglecting yourself. Eventually, you may become tired, frustrated or lose sight of what makes you happy.

Choosing yourself means protecting your time, respecting your feelings, pursuing your goals and recognising when you need to rest. It means understanding that healthy relationships should leave room for your needs, too.

Not everyone will understand your boundaries, especially if they are used to you always putting them first. But their disappointment doesn't automatically mean you have done something wrong.

You are allowed to care for yourself without apologising for it.

As I continue becoming the woman I want to be, I'm learning that self-love is not always about buying beautiful things or looking good. Sometimes, it's simply walking away from what drains you, keeping a promise to yourself or choosing peace over the need to please everyone.

Remember, you matter in your own story, too. Don't become so busy being there for everyone that you forget to be there for yourself.

We are not just becoming older. We are becoming ourselves.
