<p>HEVEL HAVALIM</p><p><br/></p><p>Vanity upon vanity,</p><p>Wealth will not follow me to eternity.</p><p>What then is the essence of humanity,</p><p>When the end is dust and vanity?</p><p><br/></p><p>The books, the sleepless nights, the struggle,</p><p>Why do we hustle?</p><p>Life treats us like clothes squeezed and rumpled,</p><p>So our young may suckle.</p><p><br/></p><p>Dust we are, and dust we shall be.</p><p>Yet the soil itself does not till</p><p>And the trees stand at ease</p><p>While we know no sleep.</p><p><br/></p><p>The very umbilical cord</p><p>That sustained us</p><p>Brought us into this chaotic world</p><p>And now we're the chaos</p><p>And yet, for some, hell is the final abode.</p><p>After the earthly sun has made their skin corrode.</p><p>If only at birth punishment were foretold</p><p>Maybe natality would be controlled.</p><p><br/></p><p>R.I.P. carries grief</p><p>As if death were not our common fate.</p><p>The only moment we find relief</p><p>Is when the earth forgets our name.</p><p><br/></p><p>Vanity upon vanity</p><p>That estranged beauty</p><p>It's all leading to calamity</p><p>It's all hevel havalim.</p>
