I MADE HER (ep1)

Have you ever wanted something so badlymind started giving it to you?

Maybe not physically

But enough for you to almost believe you had it

That was how it started for Mira

Mira had always wanted a younger sister

She hated being an only child

Not because her parents didn't love her. They did. But there was something about watching other girls fight with their younger sisters, share clothes, complain about them, and still look for them when they weren't around that made Mira jealous

She really wanted that, someone who would call her big sister, someone she could braid her hair for, someone she could scold and still buy sweets for five minutes later.

But Mira's parents never had another child.

So, eventually, she created one

Her name was NIA

At first, it was just a game.

Mira would sit on her bed after school and imagine a little girl sitting beside her

Nia was seven years old as she said

She had two little puffs on her head, loved biscuits more than actual food, and hated vegetables.

Mira even gave her a favourite colour yellow 😕

Whenever someone asked what she was doing, Mira would laugh and say .....i'm playing with my sister.

Everyone knew she didn't have a sister.

They assumed it was one of those things children did and nobody thought much of it.

Until Mira started buying things for Nia

First A small yellow dress

Then two hair ribbons.

Later on children's toothbrush

Then one day, her mother found a pair of tiny slippers beside Mira's bed.

Mira, whose slippers are these?

Mira looked at her mother like the question was strange.

And she said it is Nia's own

Her mother laughed and said so Nia has started buying things now?

Mira said she bought them for her sister

Her mother shook her head and walked away.

Mira picked up the slippers and placed them neatly beside the bed.

“Don't mind Mummy,” she whispered.

Then she smiled.

“I know you're here.”

Nobody knew how serious it had become.

Mira started talking to Nia every day, during breakfast, while bathing, before sleeping.

Sometimes, she would leave her room just to get something for her, she would argue with her, and sometimes, she would get angry

Her mother once heard her arguing in her room and opened the door.

Mira was sitting on the floor alone

Who are you talking to? Her mother asked

She said she is talking to Nia

Her mother stared at her.

There was nobody there

Her mother shouted her name MIRAAAA

She replied her

Nia doesn't like when people come into the room without knocking.

Her mother forced a laugh and said Ohkay

She closed the door.

But that night, she told Mira's father about it.

They both agreed it was probably nothing.

Mira was lonely.

She had always wanted a sister.

Maybe this was just her way of coping with it.

And honestly, Mira seemed happy.

So they left her alone.

Until one evening, Mira's mother came home with a cake.

She placed it on the kitchen table and told Mira to come and eat

Mira came running, she stopped when she saw the cake.

Then she looked behind her.

Her mother noticed and said what ?

Mira smiled and said Nia will be happy

Her mother sighed, There's enough cake for you. You don't have to pretend

I'm not pretending Mira said

The room went quiet.

Mira picked up a plate.

Her mother watched as she placed a slice of cake on it.

Then Mira carried the plate upstairs.

A few minutes later, she came back for another slice.

Her mother frowned.

“Another one?”

Mira nodded "Nia said she wants more.”

Her mother almost laughed.

But something about the way Mira said it stopped her.

There was no joke in her voice.

She genuinely believed her sister had asked for more cake.

That night, Mira sat on her bed with two plates between her and the empty space beside her.

She smiled

She pushed one plate forward and said I told you Mummy would bring cake

She waited.

Then nodded slowly.

A small smile appeared on her face “I missed you too"

And for the first time, Mira wasn't talking to an imaginary sister because she wanted one.

She was talking like her sister had actually come home.
