<p>After that day, Mira's mother stopped laughing whenever Mira mentioned Nia.</p><p>She became worried</p><p>Mira was no longer simply talking to an imaginary sister</p><p>She was changing her life around her, she stopped going out, she stopped spending time with people, she became irritated whenever anyone questioned Nia's existence.</p><p><br/></p><p>And sometimes, she would sit for hours in her room, talking to someone nobody else could see</p><p><br/></p><p>Her mother eventually asked her father to take her to a therapist</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira didn't want to go she keep screaming "I don't need a therapist.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Her father per her and said yes he knew nth is wrong with her that she just needs to talk to the therapist </p><p><br/></p><p>The father took her there </p><p>The first few sessions were uncomfortable.</p><p>The therapist asked Mira about her childhood, her family,school, friends.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she asked about Nia.</p><p>Mira smiled</p><p>She was my sister</p><p><br/></p><p>The therapist said was ??</p><p>Mira looked at her no she is my sister...</p><p>The therapist nodded</p><p>And when did you first start seeing her?</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Mira thought about it and said I don't know.”</p><p>Were you lonely? The therapist asked </p><p>Did you wish you had a sister?</p><p>All the time ?</p><p><br/></p><p>The therapist wrote something down</p><p>So you created Nia because you wanted someone?</p><p>Mira shook her head and said NO</p><p><br/></p><p>Then why did u create a sister?</p><p>Mira looked toward the empty chair beside her and said Because she needed me too..</p><p><br/></p><p>The therapist followed her eyes.</p><p>The chair was empty</p><p>She looked back at Mira.</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira smiled.</p><p>The therapist didn't argue.</p><p>Instead, she asked Mira to describe Nia.</p><p>Mira did.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her favourite colour, her favourite food, the way she wore her hair, the things she liked, the things she hated.</p><p>Mira knew everything.</p><p>Even Too much.</p><p><br/></p><p>Over the next few weeks, the therapist tried to help Mira understand that Nia was a creation of her mind.</p><p><br/></p><p>At first, Mira refused.</p><p>Then she became angry.</p><p>Then she cried.</p><p>Eventually, she became quiet.</p><p><br/></p><p>One afternoon, the therapist asked: Mira, do you understand that Nia isn't physically here?</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira stared at the floor and yes.</p><p><br/></p><p>And where is she?</p><p>Mira replied in my head</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>The therapist smiled gently.</p><p><br/></p><p>For the first time, she seemed tired of fighting.</p><p>Maybe she was finally accepting it.</p><p>Maybe she was getting better.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her sessions continued.</p><p>She started going outside again.</p><p>She spoke to her friends, she ate with her parents, she even stopped buying things for Nia.</p><p><br/></p><p>Everyone thought she was improving</p><p>Until one afternoon, during another session, the therapist asked:</p><p><br/></p><p>So you still talk to Nia?</p><p>Mira smiled and said NO</p><p><br/></p><p>The therapist nodded.</p><p><br/></p><p>And do you still see her?</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira shook her head no</p><p><br/></p><p>That's good, Mira</p><p><br/></p><p>The therapist smiled.</p><p>Mira smiled back.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then there was silence.</p><p>The therapist looked down at her notes.</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira suddenly turned her head.</p><p><br/></p><p>She looked at the empty chair beside her.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her smile disappeared.</p><p>The therapist noticed</p><p>And called her</p><p>Mira?</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira didn't answer.</p><p>She was staring at the chair.</p><p>Then she whispered, you're making it difficult.</p><p><br/></p><p>The therapist froze.</p><p>What?</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira looked at her smile and said nothing.</p><p>The therapist glanced at the chair</p><p><br/></p><p>Still empty.</p><p><br/></p><p>She looked back at Mira.</p><p><br/></p><p>You said you don't see Nia anymore.</p><p>Yes I don't </p><p><br/></p><p>But you're talking to her.</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira shook her head No, I'm not.</p><p>The therapist waited</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira's eyes moved back to the chair</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she smiled</p><p><br/></p><p>A small, familiar smile.</p><p><br/></p><p>The same smile she'd worn when she used to sit on her bed with two plates of cake.</p><p><br/></p><p>The therapist quietly asked,</p><p><br/></p><p>Who are you talking to?</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira looked at her.</p><p><br/></p><p>For a moment, she said nothing.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she leaned closer and whispered: Nia says you ask too many questions...</p><p><br/></p><p>The room went silent.</p><p>The therapist looked at the empty chair again.</p><p>Then back at Mira.</p><p><br/></p><p>Mira…..</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Mira smiled.</p><p>Don't worry.</p><p><br/></p><p>She reached toward the empty chair.</p><p>Her hand stopped in the air, as if someone had taken it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she whispered, she doesn't like you ma'am </p><p><br/></p><p>The therapist slowly put down her pen</p><p>And Mira sat there, holding the hand of someone who wasn't there.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe Nia had never been real</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe Mira's mind had created her to fill a loneliness that had become too painful</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe years of believing had made the illusion impossible to separate from reality</p><p><br/></p><p>But as Mira looked at the empty chair and smiled, one thought stayed with her.</p><p><br/></p><p>She had wanted a little sister so badly…</p><p><br/></p><p>she made one.</p><p><br/></p><p>And now she couldn't tell where Mira ended</p><p>and Nia began.....</p>
