<p>Maybe I Am Not As Self-Aware As I Think</p><p><br/></p><p>I used to think self-awareness was one of the best things a person could have.</p><p><br/></p><p>Now I'm not so sure.</p><p><br/></p><p>There is a strange point where understanding yourself stops being useful and starts becoming another way of watching yourself.</p><p><br/></p><p>You notice how you speak.</p><p style="text-align: left;">How you sit.</p><p style="text-align: left;"><br/></p><p>How people look at you.</p><p>Why you reacted the way you did.</p><p>Why you wanted something.</p><p>Why you suddenly didn't want it anymore.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then you start watching yourself have the experience instead of actually experiencing it.</p><p><br/></p><p>You are at a party, but part of your mind is standing in the corner studying you at the party.</p><p><br/></p><p>You are talking to someone, but you're also listening to yourself talk.</p><p><br/></p><p>You laugh, then immediately wonder whether the laugh sounded genuine.</p><p><br/></p><p>You make a mistake and before you've even finished feeling embarrassed, you've already begun analyzing where the embarrassment came from.</p><p><br/></p><p>At some point, you stop living and start reviewing.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe that's what makes excessive self-awareness so exhausting. You can rarely disappear into a moment....There is always a part of you standing outside of it, taking notes.</p><p><br/></p><p>And the strange thing is that people often praise this as maturity.</p><p><br/></p><p>"You're very self-aware."</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe.</p><p><br/></p><p>Or maybe I just became very good at monitoring myself.</p><p><br/></p><p>I think there is a difference.</p><p><br/></p><p>Self-awareness should help you understand yourself well enough to move through life more freely.</p><p><br/></p><p>But sometimes it does the opposite.</p><p><br/></p><p>You become so conscious of yourself that even ordinary things start feeling like performances. Walking alone... Speaking to strangers. Entering a room. Sitting somewhere by yourself.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nothing is actually happening, yet your mind keeps producing an audience.</p><p><br/></p><p>And eventually, you begin judging yourself through the eyes of people who may not even be thinking about you.</p><p><br/></p><p>That realization should be freeing.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sometimes it isn't.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because knowing that you're probably imagining their judgment doesn't necessarily make you stop feeling judged.</p><p><br/></p><p>That's the part nobody really talks about.</p><p><br/></p><p>Awareness doesn't automatically heal anything.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sometimes it only gives you a better vocabulary for explaining why you're hurting.</p><p><br/></p><p>You can understand the pattern and still repeat it.</p><p><br/></p><p>You can know where a fear came from and still feel it.</p><p><br/></p><p>You can recognize your insecurity while it is happening and still be insecure.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe being human is partly learning when to stop observing yourself and return to the room.</p><p><br/></p><p>To let yourself say something stupid without immediately dissecting it.</p><p><br/></p><p>To laugh without wondering how it sounded.</p><p><br/></p><p>To walk without thinking about how you walk.</p><p><br/></p><p>To existt for a few minutes without turning yourself into a subject of study.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because perhaps the goal was neverr to understand yourself completely.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe the goal is to understand yourself enough that you can finally forget about yourself for a while❤️.</p>
At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
Top Engagers
For the Top Engagers Track, we award the top 3 people who engage the most with other user's content via
comments.
The winners are picked using the "Top Monthly Engagers" tab on the rankings page.
Most Engaged Content
The Most Engaged Content recognizes users whose content received the most engagement during the month.
We pick the top 3.
The winners are picked using the "Top Monthly Contributors" tab on the rankings page.
Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
