On time
Three beings set out across the universe, hunting a single drop of time.

They walked the shining length of it, searching every shore, every current, every tide—but time would not be caught. It ran through their hands like water refusing to become a cup.

The first grew tired of the chase. He set down his hunger and lived out his days inside that absence, calling the stillness peace.

The second kept going a while longer, until the distance wore him down. He turned aside into a cold, dark eddy where the current slowed and thinned, and there he buried his search with his despair.

The third did not stop. He carried no map, only motion—and somewhere past the furthest edge he understood what he’d been chasing wrong. Time was never a thing to hold. It was the road itself.

He hadn’t found time. He had simply moved through enough of it to see it clearly: a mirage that takes whatever shape you carry into it—slow if you’re afraid, fast if you’re not looking, still if you finally stop needing it to be anything at all.

“Oh,” he said. “I already had it.”
