One Tick Away From Ending Hauwa(A Skincare Survival Story)

It was at this moment I realized there is absolutely nothing wrong with my attention span. I was staring at my phone for so long without blinking even once. And I figured out I was really great at multitasking too. Look at me, staring at this chat while holding my breath and imagining the numerous ways I would end Hauwa after this. I had sent my first big girl paycheck to this vendor Hauwa had recommended. After payment, my WhatsApp messages had suddenly stopped at one tick. It was staring at me. Mocking me. And in that moment, I knew I had been scammed. “I’m going to end Hauwa” was all I could think about. But you’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation. It all started the holiday before I entered 300 level. I was tired of resuming uni with flawless skin and coming home at the end of the semester looking burnt. I knew if I had continued like that, my skin barrier would give up on me before I gave up on this degree. I knew I had to fight back. I had to fight for my glow. So I DMed Hauwa, and she recommended a friend of hers who offers free consultations which was great for me, considering the fact that it was my first time purchasing skin care products. I didn’t want to blind buy or rely on TikTok recommendations. She listened and walked me through everything I would need. After the 10 seconds of one tick panic, the blue double ticks returned, followed by a lovely message from her. Ladies and gentlemen, I got my package in less than three hours. I realized I had completely misjudged her. She wrapped my package so many times that I’m sure it would have even survived a plane crash. And tucked inside the package was a sweet handwritten thank you note and a free sheet mask. It was a small gesture but I found it really thoughtful of her. She seemed like a vendor that truly cared. Fast forward to today, my skin barrier is thriving and still hasn’t dropped out.I’m not a skincare enthusiast by the way. I’m inconsistent and I’m usually broke but that’s besides the point. She’s very intentional about her craft unlike the sun that’s intentional about cooking me. I feel we’ve all been conditioned to only patronize the big brands out there. But sometimes, the most genuine care and quality products can come from a small brand. And yes, I’ve learnt not to judge a brand by a 10 seconds wait. I’ve officially become her unofficial marketer, telling anyone who cares to listen. As for Hauwa, she’s safe. For now.
