BEFORE YOU READ, YOU MUST TAKE THIS PLEDGE. REPEAT AFTER ME...
I, __________________ (write your name),
solemnly pledge that this little secret shall remain between you and me.
No other ears shall hear of it. No loose lips shall speak of it. Not now, not ever.
I understand that by taking this pledge, I become an official keeper of this secret.
Now, place your thumb on the print below to seal this agreement.
No backing out! Hehehehe, you think I'd tell you just like that? C'mon, sign! 🙄😒
Thank you. 😌
Clears throat...
Now, where do I even begin? Believe me when I say this, Peter Parker has a lot to answer for. And you may not understand until you hear what happened. Sha, come closer. 🤧
You see eh, if you grew up with a younger sibling who was obsessed with a particular cartoon, you probably understand that watching television was never really a matter of choice.
My younger brother, Daniel, was a huge fan of Marvel, especially Spider-Man. Daddy used to get us cartoons and movies to watch. We had Tom and Jerry, Teletubbies, Barney, Barbie and all sorts. But Daniel had his favourite, and nothing else could compete with Spider-Man.
I was often forced to watch it with him. I mean, I liked cartoons too, but must it always be Spider-Man? Was there no other superhero in the entire universe?
Anyway, on this particular day, Mummy had stepped out after instructing us to read our books. And, as usual, she had made it very clear that we were not to touch the television.
But Daniel had other plans.
It started with spaghetti.
He had just finished eating his own plate, and when I asked him to share some with me, he refused. I begged. I pleaded. I tried everything, but this boy would not give me even one strand.

I was very offended that he disrespected my ego. 😭
So, I decided to deal with him in my own little way.
I took the television remote and hid it somewhere. My plan was simple: no remote, no television, and certainly no Spider-Man.
Satisfied with my achievement, I eventually fell asleep right there, where I had hidden the remote.
When I woke up, guess what?
<img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/Screenshot_20261103-202305.png"/>
This boy was watching Spider-Man!
Apparently, I had forgotten one very important detail. Our old television had buttons on the side. You didn't necessarily need a remote to operate it.
Daniel had simply used the buttons, put in his Spider-Man movie and carried on with his life.
To make matters worse, he was busy imitating something he had seen Spider-Man do. I can't even remember exactly what he was trying to do or which movie it was from. All I knew was that this boy had gone back to his Spider-Man business after all my efforts to stop him.
I was annoyed.
I walked up to him and gave him a playful push.
I had always heard that experience is the best teacher, but that day, I learnt a lesson no literature book had ever taught me. 😭
Daniel started crying.
At first, I thought he was just being dramatic. But when I checked his arm, I realised something was terribly wrong.
His arm was broken!
Ah! My entire childhood flashed before my eyes. 😩🤧
And as if that wasn't enough, Mummy returned barely two minutes later.
She rushed towards Daniel.
"What happened to his arm?!"
I looked at Daniel. Then I looked at Mummy.
My pant was already soaked. I had peed on myself out of fear!
But wait. That wasn't even the end of my problem.
Mummy suddenly noticed that the television was on.
"Who put on the television? Didn't I tell you people to read your books?"
At that point, we had two offences and two culprits.
Daniel was already crying because of the pain, and there was no way he was going to explain how he had managed to operate the television despite Mummy's instructions.
Me, on the other hand, wished I could just tell Mummy what had happened. But the good-child part of me, which had a very healthy respect for Mummy's slippers and broom, refused to cooperate.
So there we were, looking as innocent as two people who had absolutely nothing to do with anything.
Mummy gave me a bombastic side-eye before turning her attention back to Daniel in her arms.
Then she looked at me again with that unmistakable 'what just happened?' look.
I stood still. I said nothing. I looked at Daniel, then at Mummy, wondering what could possibly save me at that point.
<img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/etbgebgw.png"/>
Suddenly, I thought of Aladdin's Genie.
Deep down in my heart, I made a wish.
I wished Spider-Man would come and save me. I mean, wasn't he supposed to be a superhero?
<img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/WA_1793741872644.jpeg"/>
But did he show up?
No!
Maybe because I wasn't Mary Jane. 🙄
I still have a score to settle with that boy.
Mtcheww onirase oshi... 🙄😒
Anyway, Mummy took Daniel away after calling Daddy to take him to the orthopaedic hospital.
Nobody ever knew exactly how Daniel broke his arm. And ever since that day, I've learnt to keep my hands to myself when playing with him.
I never want to experience that again. 😭
Thank you for reading, but please, don't tell Mummy I told you...
Remember you promised me? 🥺🤲😭
