Tea With Zayd ☕️

My birthday was supposed to be this grand, happy occasion because I had been excited about it for the entire week before. I was counting down, planning things, romanticising my own existence… you know, the usual 😂.

Then, two days before my birthday, the blues decided to clock in for work.

One minute I was excited, the next I was just… sad. No particular reason. Just that weird heaviness that sometimes sneaks up on you and ruins the playlist.

The day before my birthday, I had a few shoots and, thankfully, I was happy in those moments. We had team bonding, a team meeting, plenty of laughter and distractions. But when my actual birthday came, the sadness was back. I was lowkey depressed, sitting through another team meeting, trying to convince myself that I was having a good day because, technically, it was MY day.

They sang happy birthday to me, which was sweet, but somewhere inside I still felt… meh.

And then there was Zayd.

Zayd had promised to take me out for tea. Of course, I found approximately 47 reasons not to go. Excuses were spawning like they had CRAZYYY.

Eventually, two days after my birthday, I agreed.

He came late.

As usual.

At this point, I don't even know why I mentioned it. 😂

But we went for the tea anyway.

And somehow, that simple little tea date became one of my favourite memories from my birthday season.

We talked about everything and nothing. We listened to each other's ridiculously questionable music tastes. We laughed. We had those random conversations that somehow become deep without either person announcing, “Okay, let's get vulnerable now.”

It was just… easy.

And I think that's what made it so special.

Zayd is one of those friends who reminds you that friendship doesn't always need a hidden agenda. No strings attached. No unnecessary drama. No “what are we?” conversations. Just a genuine homeboy who shows up, makes you laugh, listens to your nonsense and occasionally drags you out for tea when you're busy fighting your own brain.

That tea didn't magically fix everything. But for a few hours, I forgot that I had been sad.

And sometimes, that's enough.

Maybe that's what makes some memories so precious. They're not necessarily extravagant. Sometimes it's just tea, a good conversation, weird music, laughter and the right person sitting across from you.

So, thank you Zayd. 🥹🤍

For the tea. For the laughter. For the random conversations. For making a slightly depressing birthday feel a little lighter.

You're genuinely one of the sweetest gifts 2026 gave me.

And honestly?

If 2026 is going to keep giving me friends like you, maybe I won't complain about this year so much.

Just please work on the punctuality. 😭
