The fine line (Episode 10)

Imagine earning 420k monthly and having 3.5 million naira sitting pretty in my account in less than five months of working in this company.

That’s not favor — that’s the power of yansh. Somebody shout hallelujah.

But that’s the thing… how do I tell anyone I’m in a relationship with Adam, still like Tunde, and can’t stop thinking about the COO that looks like RMD’s older, richer cousin?

Call me anything you like, but I promise you’d do worse if you were in my shoes.

After a few weeks of balancing all the tension, I was finally breathing small peace. But Mr. Ademola? That man has been calling me into his office almost every day.

Good thing I’m a clean liar. Whenever Cynthia asks, I always find a believable excuse. And it even makes her feel like her little plan is working — because the only reason she reported me was to get me sacked. But guess who now has Mr. Ademola wrapped around her finger… or maybe her waist?

Now Cynthia has turned sweet overnight. She greets me with smiles, compliments my outfits, even offers me lunch. But I know fake peace when I see it — something bigger is cooking.

That afternoon, while everyone was gossiping in the office instead of working, my phone buzzed.

Message from Mr. Ademola:

“Come to my office. Now.”

I stood up immediately. Cynthia asked, “Where are you going again?”

I formed a worried face. “Mr. Ademola said I should see him,” I said, holding a few random files to look innocent.

When I got there, he wasn’t smiling. His face was tight, serious. My first thought? God, please don’t let him ask for refund o.

Because I’d just ordered that burnt orange 40-inch Burmese curl wig from my hair plug. And I already planned to pay balance this evening.

He leaned back and said, “Zara, I warned you to stay away from Cynthia, but you still didn’t listen.”

I blinked, confused.

He continued, “That girl is desperate to get you out of this office. Do you know she even tried to seduce me to make it happen?”

My mouth went dry.

“She’s reported you multiple times. I had to tell her I’ve already given you two queries just to calm her down. And she was excited, like she finally got what she wanted.”

I just sat there. Speechless.

Then he stood up, came closer, and leaned against his table right in front of me.

His cologne filled the room, his voice dropped.

“Zara…” he said, twisting a strand of my hair around his finger.

“You still haven’t given me a reply to my offer.”

I swallowed hard.

He smiled slightly and leaned in, our faces barely inches apart.

For a second, I thought time stopped. My heartbeat was loud enough to hear.

Then suddenly—the door flung open.

Tunde.

He froze when he saw us. That shocked expression quickly changed into something calm but cold.

He smiled faintly, muttered something like “Sorry, sir,” and walked out before I could say a word.

The silence that followed could choke air.

I stood up, trying to breathe properly. My head was spinning.

What did he just see?

What does he think?

Will he tell anyone?

Should I explain? Or just act like nothing happened?

I walked out of the office, pretending to be calm, but inside me, everything was shaking.

How do I even begin to explain this?

That I’m in a relationship with Adam… still like Tunde… and can’t stop thinking about the COO that just almost kissed me?

Maybe I’m the problem.

Or maybe I’m just the main character in a story that’s about to explode.
