The Girl in the Last Row of Romance

The Girl in the Last Row of Romance

She has never found love. She doesn't know the feeling. So when she hears of one friend going through her third heartbreak and another flourishing in a meaningful relationship, she cannot relate.

She knows what love is. She has felt it in the gentle care of her mother, the quiet strength of her father, and the steadfast presence of her friends. But when the concept shifts to romance, she becomes an observer rather than a participant.

She would rather read about it in books or watch it unfold in movies while eating popcorn in her pajamas, her hair ruffled and untouched by expectation, than experience it in real life. It is not that she is opposed to the idea of love. She simply needs it to find her there....in the comfort of her home, in her worn pajamas, in the version of herself that exists when no one is watching.....and accept her because that is who she is.

Maybe she has never experienced romantic love because she has never allowed herself to. Because to her, love is more than butterflies and grand gestures. It is trust. It is vulnerability. It is placing your heart into another person's hands and hoping they will treat it with care.

And that terrifies her.

Because love, in all its beauty, is also power....the power to soften or shatter, to heal or wound, to become a refuge or a weapon. Perhaps that is why she keeps it at a distance, safer in the pages of novels and the glow of cinema screens, where happy endings are guaranteed and heartbreak can be closed with the turn of a page.

Yet somewhere beneath the caution, she wonders what it would be like to be chosen without pretence; to be found exactly as she is unpolished, comfortable, ordinaryand to discover that love was never asking her to become someone else.

Only to let herself be seen.
