The Ones We Call Mad

— a reflection on pain, identity, and the things people hide.

Many broken people roam the Earth,

Yet somehow.......

The world still expects them to walk as though nothing ever shattered

Many mad people roam the streets,

yet the world only calls them mad when their pain becomes inconvenient

What if they aren't actually mad, just tired?

Maybe they aren't even mad at all.....just exhausted from surviving things they were never given the words to explain

Running away from the things they're expected to understand

Maybe they're not running from the world—maybe they're running from the parts of themselves the world taught them to fear

The part of themselves they've hidden for so long,

the part of themselves they lost just trying to please the world

Maybe the tragedy isn't that they've lost themselves, but that they've forgotten what they looked like before they learned to hide

And now they wander through life, searching for a version of themselves they don't even remember losing

And perhaps that's the cruelest part—

they don't need someone to tell them how to find their way back

They need someone to remind them that they were never meant to be lost in the first place

But instead we call them mad......

Because it is easier to call someone mad than to ask what happened to them

And we don't stop to think that maybe

they're not lost at all, maybe they're just trying to find a way back to themselves in a world that keeps giving them reasons to disappear

Maybe the real madness was never in them, but in a world that kept asking them to become someone else just to be accepted

Broken people roam the Earth

And maybe,

the world was never meant to be a place where the broken had to pretend they were whole

And maybe the ones we call broken are simply the ones who could no longer carry the weight of pretending they weren't.
