The rain continued to fall in heavy streams around the edges of the overhang, creating a curtain that cut us off from the rest of the world.</p><p>"Staying silent is starting to hurt more than the fear of finding out," you had said, and those words kept echoing in my head.</p><p>I looked at your hand still resting near my face, your thumb motionless against my cheek. The tension that had been building between us for months—maybe even years—was finally coming to a head. There was no polite joke to make, no casual topic to switch to, no way to pretend this was just another afternoon between best friends.</p><p>"If we cross this line," I said softly, my voice barely carrying over the sound of the rain, "there's no going back to how things were. You know that, right?"</p><p>"I know," you replied without hesitation. Your eyes were steady, fixed on mine with a clarity that made my heart race. "But I don't think I want to go back. Do you?"</p><p>The question hung in the cool air between us, quiet and direct. For years, I had convinced myself that keeping my feelings secret was protecting what we had. But standing here, inches away from you, I realized that holding back was only keeping us trapped in place.</p><p>I took a breath, letting go of the hesitation that had held me back for so long.</p><p>"No," I admitted, the warmth spreading through my chest.
